Antonette and Jermel celebrated their long-time love with a luxe white and gold wedding at a modern venue in New Jersey!
Antonette and Jermel met when they were only 15 years old. They kept in touch despite the distance between them and as time went on their relationship only grew stronger.
Jermel completely surprised Antonette by proposing during what she thought was a typical dinner date. As they entered the venue, everyone they loved began to surround them and Jermel got onto one knee.
It was a complete surprise!… I turned and my husband was grabbing my hand while on one knee and I was completely filled with emotions… everyone erupted with cheers and smiles.”

How did you meet?
We met at 15 years old in Lithonia, Georgia. My husband was coming down for basketball camp and I was visiting his cousin (my best friend). From that day on, nothing could keep us apart throughout the years, not even distance.
Tell us all about the proposal
My husband proposed to me at Moonshine Modern Supper Club in Millburn, NJ. It was a complete surprise! My husband rented out the venue and had our close friends and family gather there an hour prior for the surprise. As we get to the venue, we walked up the stairs and saw everyone surrounding us with their phones. I turned and my husband was grabbing my hand while on one knee and I was completely filled with emotions! He asked me to marry him, of course, I said “YES!”, and everyone erupted with cheers and smiles.
What were you inspired by while planning your wedding?
We both were inspired by an event held at Crystal Plaza called Love Is in The Air. It’s a mock wedding with all the food, entertainment, and everything anyone would want at a wedding. We went to this event because our wedding planner invited us. From that day forward we knew where we were getting married and how we wanted it to be.
For the inspiration of the wedding attire, we wanted to represent black excellence. We wanted to show the beautiful, elegant village that supports our union.
What were some of your favorite details at your wedding?
We loved our modern venue. Our venue is beautiful all by itself and with our decor, it was a dream come true. The venue offers everything, it’s a one-stop shop. We loved the variety of foods, elegant details, ambiance, the suites (my husband had one of the best groomsmen suites we’ve ever seen and mine was so glamorous!), and the staff was impeccable.
What did each of you wear and how did you choose your attire?
We were both styled by Vainglorious Brides for all looks. I wore a couture gown by Allison Webb and shoes by Jimmy Choo for the ceremony. Selina suggested a black bridal gown and I loved it. For the reception, it was a custom gown designed by Matopeda Atelier and coordinated by Selena of Vainglorious Brides. My husband wore Christian on his feet and two jackets from Sebastian Cruz Couture.
What is your favorite memory from your wedding day?
One of our favorite moments was the entrance/reveal of our second look. We were greeted by our family and friends with a “money shower.” In African culture, it’s a way to send off the bride and groom with new blessings, gifts, good fortune, and love. Another would be the first dance together, it will be an unforgettable moment. We were literally on cloud 9 like the smoke we were dancing around.
What advice can you give to engaged couples?
Our advice for future couples is to hire the team you need to ensure you enjoy the entire wedding day. Our team made sure we didn’t have to worry about or want anything. It was a great experience because we were able to enjoy the wedding and experience everything that was being offered. We’ve met so many people that are still shocked when we say we would get married all over again. Also, time will fly by, so you have to try to live in the moment and enjoy every moment.
