MoNique and Austin said “I do” at their luxurious fairytale wedding at the Tudor Arms in Cleveland, Ohio!
MoNique and Austin were first brought together through mutual friends. After five days of texting and face timing, they went on their first date and have seen each other almost every day since.
One night after a date, Austin surprised MoNique with a romantic proposal in front of close family and friends.
The person who I thought was the waitress began singing our song and all of our family and friends came out from the back door. It was absolutely beautiful.

How did you meet?
We met through two of our mutual friends. Austin’s fraternity brother and my sorority sister thought we’d be a good match. They gave Austin my phone number. Austin texted me and we also FaceTimed the same evening. We talked on the phone every day for five days and then went on our first date. On our first date, we spoke for hours had dinner, and then went and saw Christmas lights and drank hot cocoa. After our first date, there were very few days that we did not see each other.
Tell us all about the proposal
Austin took me to one of our favorite restaurants and then we went to an art exhibit. After the art exhibit, I was tired and wanted to go home but Austin asked if we could go to a lounge. I was hesitant but agreed. When we got there we sat outside in this pretty garden. He went inside for a little bit and was waiting with his friends. When he came back, the person who I thought was the waitress began singing our song and all of our family and friends came out from the back door. it was absolutely beautiful.
Describe your wedding attire. What was the wedding shopping experience like for you?
I wore an all-white dress made by Enzoani with an extended train and cathedral veil. Austin wore a custom white and black tuxedo with photographs of me on the inner lining.
The wedding shopping experience was amazing. I only went with my mom. We went to one bridal boutique and after about the fourth dress I knew that my dress was the one for me. While I was wearing it I heard the song that I wanted to walk down the aisle to come on the radio and it was a sign that that was my dress. Austin‘s tuxedo was custom-made for him. His dad and some of his groomsmen went to the fittings with him. All of the groomsmen‘s tuxedos were also custom-made.
Did you incorporate any culture into your wedding?
We both jumped the broom during our ceremony and also took communion together. We are both in a fraternity and sorority (Alpha Phi Alpha and Alpha Kappa Alpha) so during the reception, my Sorority sang our national hymn while standing around me in a circle.
Then, Austin’s fraternity sang their national hymn to me and Austin while standing around us in a circle.
What is the best memory from your wedding?
MoNique: I loved when we did our first prayer/touch. It was an intimate and private moment that let us reflect on what was most important, God and our love.
Austin: Our last dance because some of the guests had left and it felt like it was just her and me in the room.
What is the best advice you can give to engaged couples?
Austin: Do premarital counseling. It brings out conversations and discussions that you may not have otherwise.
MoNique: Having a month of/ day of coordinator is so important. Even if your venue provides one having your own makes a huge difference. I was so calm and relaxed on my wedding day because I knew that everything was taken care of.
