Pamela and Austin created a heavenly experience at their luxurious ivory wedding at the Westin Hotel in Columbus, Ohio!
Pamela and Austin first became acquainted through work, but their initial meetings were far from love at first sight. For two years, every time Austin saw Pamela, he would ask her out on a date, but Pamela kept refusing. One day when Austin asked her out, expecting the usual answer, Pamela surprised him by finally saying yes. They talked for hours on their first date and were the last ones to leave the restaurant.
Austin planned an elaborate and romantic scavenger hunt proposal for Pamela. He involved all of her closest friends and had his videographer friend capture every moment. After Pamela was surprised by her best friends, who each presented her with a rose and handwritten letters, Pamela was brought to Downtown Columbus where Austin was waiting surrounded by rose petals.
We got engaged at the Hilton Hotel in Columbus, OH, Downtown on the bridge that overlooks High St. where I was there waiting for her, surrounded by rose petals on the ground. I asked her to marry me and she said YES!… It was a day I think we’ll always remember.

How did you meet?
We met at Pamela’s place of work and I asked her out on a date that night, to which she quickly said “no.” So over the next two years, whenever I saw her, I asked her out, and finallllly after 2 years of asking, she said yes — which actually came to my surprise. On our first date, we were at dinner for over 2 hours talking and were the last ones at the restaurant, and the rest was history after that.
Tell us about the proposal.
I planned a surprise party/engagement for her. On the day of the engagement, I sent her on a scavenger hunt. I told her she was meeting my videographer to shoot some content. At that moment, I had her sister, Elsie (from Atlanta), randomly show up and surprise her with a rose and a handwritten letter for the next clue. I had a Sprinter van there waiting, which they all got into, and headed to where we had our first date.
Chelsea, one of her other best friends, surprised her there with a rose and a handwritten letter. Chelsea joined Pamela and her sister in the Sprinter, which then took her back to one of the places we used to live while we were in Ohio. At that location, her other best friend, Rhema (From North Carolina), surprised her with a rose and a handwritten letter.
I then planned for the Sprinter van to drive back to the original location, which took her to meet me. We got engaged at the Hilton Hotel in Columbus, OH, Downtown on the bridge that overlooks High St. where I was there waiting for her, surrounded by rose petals on the ground. I asked her to marry me, she said YES!
I then told her we were going to tell my parents about the news… when we got there, I had 30 to 40 of our closest friends from all over the country there to surprise her and celebrate with us. It was a day I think we’ll always remember.
Wedding Style:
Austin wore a custom tuxedo that he designed himself through the company Pamela works for. The lining of the tuxedo had a picture of Pamela and Austin from their Save the Date. The red dinner Jacket was also custom-made by the suit company that Pamela works for. Pamela wore a luxurious gown from Amalia Carrara. She found her gown in Atlanta at Bridals by Lori, where they shot the TV show “Say Yes to the Dress.” The Kente attire they wore at the reception was custom-made from Pamela’s Aunt.
Did you incorporate any culture into your wedding?
We loved the outfit change into our cultural Kente from Ghana, where Pamela is from.
What is your best memory from your wedding?
Austin: My favorite memories were seeing Pamela for the first time in the First Look, seeing Pamela walk down the aisle to me, having Pamela bring out the red dinner jacket when my favorite song, “Dreams and Nightmares,” was playing, and also bringing out my favorite treat — a chocolate chip cookie cake — at the same time!! And the cultural outfit changed with the dance that we practiced.
Pamela: Seeing me in person after peeping at Austin through the window while I was getting ready with my bridesmaids, walking down the aisle, which I have dreamt of since Austin proposed. Our two rehearsed dances were magical, and the second one in the cultural outfit showed more of our personality. The champagne bell — which would have an extended hand with white gloves come out with a glass of champagne after ringing the bell — was SO SO cool. And, of course — the late-night Chick-fil-A!! And, of course, seeing all of our friends and family together to make the day so special!
What is the best wedding advice you can give to engaged couples?
If you can, get a wedding planner, as it makes the process so much easier! Do what makes you both happy-don’t worry about making others happy. Anything you can do to incorporate both of your personalities always makes it more fun and meaningful. Have fun throughout the process. Don’t think you HAVE to do everything the exact way you see with other people’s wedding. Do what makes you both happy. This day is about the two of you, and you want to look back on your wedding day and say…wow that was the best day of our lives. Don’t overthink. Go with the flow if something doesn’t go as planned.
