As medical students completing their residency in general surgery in Barbados, Adrienne and Charles were used to long hours practicing and studying their craft. However, the stress of working their hospital rounds melted away when Adrienne and Charles locked eyes during a tutorial group. They were introduced by a mutual friend, and it was as if they instantaneously fell in love. Adrienne shares, “Charles treated me like a princess from day one. He is by far the most romantic man I know.”
The couple would eventually part to continue their medical school education: Adrienne moved back to the Bahamas, and Charles stayed in Barbados. However, distance only made their hearts grow fonder and reaffirmed for Charles that he need Adrienne in his life forever. Charles proposed to Adrienne by showing up in the Bahamas unexpected. Adrienne recalls, “My Maids of Honor, Krystal and Deandra, picked Charles up from the airport and lured me to the gardens of the Hilton hotel. I saw him and began to cry instantly. He had roses and a saxophonist playing, ‘You Are So Beautiful to Me’ (a song my mum who passed away the previous year from cancer would always sing to me.) I cried and said, ‘Yes.’ I was so happy. He really is my prince charming.”
The couple celebrated the New Year with a beautiful January wedding in the Bahamas. Adrienne’s mother’s spirit was present during every moment of their nuptials. Adrienne shares, “The vision [for my wedding] was created by [my mom] down to the music that was played as I walked down the aisle.” White flowers and décor gave both their ceremony and reception spaces an ethereal, angelic feel. Adrienne and her bridesmaids wore white, and Adrienne stunned in two wedding gowns. For her church ceremony, she evoked the essence of a princess wearing a ballgown with a 6ft long cathedral veil. Her reception dress was form fitting, fun, sexy and daring.
Every moment of their nuptials were beautiful, but Adrienne’s most memorable moment was her husband’s speech to her. She shares, “He spoke directly from the heart and I was so surprised that he was able to open up that way in the front of so many people. He is just amazing.” Through medical school, and the struggles of long distance relationship, Adrienne and Charles put “Their Love on Top,” and there’s nothing more beautiful than sharing that love with the people who mean the most to you.
