Some people believe you never get a second chance to make a first impression. Well, Joseph took that to heart when he scored a date with Kayia.
On their first date, Joseph came to the restaurant dressed in a suit. Kayia was impressed, but what really made an impression on her heart was their conversation. They talked for hours. Kayia recalls, “We had an instant connection. After dinner, we walked around the Harbor. Three hours had quickly gone by. We still talk about our first date and how lucky we are to have found each other.”
To celebrate their engagement, this stylish couple had a timeless and luxurious engagement session. Kayia wanted their session to tell a romantic love story. So, she choose a regal historic mansion in the heart of D.C. that perfectly complimented the theme of their shoot. Their photos are classy, sophisticated, and breathtakingly beautiful.

How did you meet?
I met Joseph online after moving to the area for my residency in 2017.
What did you do on your first date?
Joseph took me to a waterfront restaurant in Baltimore’s Harbor. He came dressed in a suit (lol)! We had an instant connection. After dinner, we walked around the Harbor. Three hours had quickly gone by. We still talk about our first date and how lucky we are to have found each other.
Tell us your proposal story.
Joseph took me to a quaint bed and breakfast in Chesterton, Maryland. I had suspicions that he may purpose, but I had also suspected a proposal on several other occasions as well, so I did not want to think too much of our weekend getaway. When we arrived at our room in the bed and breakfast, I opened the door to find the room full of roses, rose petals, and champagne. Joseph then got on one knee proposed!
Describe your engagement session.
Our engagement session was set in a historic mansion in the heart of D.C. I shared my vision with my photographer my fiancé. I envisioned the session to be a romantic love story and choose a venue to fit with our vision.
Tunji and my planner, FTK, both made this session unforgettable. Their commitment to their craft is remarkable. For example, Tunji ducked under tables just to get the right angle and FTK oil-bloated my face throughout the entire session!
What’s your favorite thing to do as a couple?
We love following our favorite television series, grabbing dinner with friends, and traveling a few times a year to spend time with family and to vacation.
How has wedding planning been so far?
AHHMAZING! I have always been a planner-type person, and I love this moment of being a bride-to-be. Even with most of our vendors booked, we continue to go to bridal shows just so we can continue to enjoy this special and exciting phase of our relationship.
Tell us what you’re looking forward to most on the wedding day.
I am looking forward most to having all of our friends and family in one place celebrating with us. We are now in the stage of wedding planning where we are crafting the guest experience to show our gratitude for those celebrating with us.

This is one of those wedding ideas that seem overboard but is actually so worth it. Congratulations to them both and real job well-done by the photographer for these amazing stills.

Hi Rahul! Thank you for the compliment. The shoot defiently felt over the top as we were doing it but I am so happy that we went all out. I don’t think we’ll have this opportunity again after we are married.
