This luxury wedding at Briza on the Bay in Miami, Florida, features two glamorous outfits by the bride and groom and an intimate first look.
Captured beautifully by Muna Coterie member, Love Stories By Smitty, Jōvan & Brittany’s luxurious Miami wedding exudes love and joy! The couple, who first met in high school at a Lil Wayne concert, started off as friends and stayed in touch throughout the years until becoming an official couple in 2017. Following Jōva’s surprise proposal in NYC at the Edge (the highest outdoor sky deck in Manhattan!), it was on to planning their dream wedding!
Guests’ entertainment was top of mind for these two. Their wedding reception featured unique details including an on-site cigar roller, a live wedding painter, and a Dj playing all the top hits. Other details of their wedding included two first looks (one for the bride and her bridesmaids, and the second for her hubby-to-be!).
A second outfit change for their reception was another highlight for the fashionable duo. Brittany swapped out her stunning long-sleeved Milla Nova couture gown for an equally glamorous Portia Scarlett dress with lots of bling. Looking equal parts dapper and fly, Jōvan changed out of his first rose-gold tux from Gentleman’s Guru into a traditional ivory tuxedo from Perfect Tux with custom embroidered “F” for Flemming on the back.

How they met…
We met in high school 16 years ago at a Lil Wayne concert in Louisville, KY. My best friend Cyrene introduced us to each other at the concert. I wasn’t interested in Jōvan at the time so I just wanted to be friends. But he was a sweetheart and was so respectful. So we always kept in contact and remained friends even after high school and college. Fast forward to 2016, we started dating and made it official in 2017.
The proposal…
Brittany: On the day of the proposal, he surprised me with a dress to wear that day. I said something about wearing something else, and he insisted I wear that dress. That was weird to me because usually if he buys me something to wear and I don’t want to wear it it’s not a big deal. So I knew something was going on after that.
The proposal was in NYC at the Edge (it’s the highest outdoor sky deck in Manhattan). Jōvan proposed to me on the Edge of the building with all our family and friends behind me. My family and friends flew to New York to witness this. It was so beautiful! My husband exceeded my expectations on the proposal.
Wedding style & attire…
Jōvan: For my first tuxedo I wanted to go with some flair, something very dapper that would stand out and represent my taste in style. I went with a Gentleman’s Guru tux that was rose gold with features of rose gold, black, and silver floral patterns. For my second tux, I went with your traditional ivory tuxedo from Perfect Tux, but we added some style to it as well. My wife came up with a design using Canva to feature some appliqués on the back of the tux that featured an F in the middle of the design.
Brittany: My wedding dress demanded the attention in the room. A showstopper! It was a Milla Nova couture dress. It was long sleeves with a built-in corset, a lot of beading, and bling. My dress also had a detachable half-skirt. The half-skirt design has a long train with a flower design and sparkle. For the second look, I wanted to be comfortable and sexy at the same time. I also wanted the dress to shine bright like a diamond even when the lights were dim. I achieved that look by going with a Portia Scarlett dress.
What was the wedding shopping experience like for you?
Brittany: I did a lot of research when it was time to purchase a wedding dress. I wanted something unique and beautiful. Pinterest and Instagram were used for inspiration in my journey of finding the perfect dress.
After searching so many bridal websites for months, I ended up going to Miami to try on dresses. I went to two bridal boutiques with my family in Miami and found my dream dress at Viero Bridal Miami. The sales team made me feel great about my purchase.
Jōvan: The shopping experience was an easy process. I knew I wanted my tuxedos to show my taste. Once I found that, I knew I would make a splash and match my wife’s fly.

Favorite wedding day memories…
Jōvan: It’s hard to pick just one. But, my best memories are walking into the reception as Mr. & Mrs. Fleming and seeing all the love and support from family and friends. We could feel all the great energy in the room and that was an amazing feeling.
My other favorite memory was the bride and father-in-law dance, they did a dance battle to Just Got Paid by Jonny Kemp. It was great seeing my father and wife have so much fun on the dancefloor.
Brittany: One of my highlights of the night was the tribute to my mother, that is no longer with us. I wanted it to feel like she was with us by bringing her personality into the room at the reception. I said a few words on the microphone about my mom and how I wanted everyone off their feet dancing to one of my mom’s favorite songs, “The Show” by Dougie Fresh.
The DJ played the song and on the projector were videos of my mom dancing. Then my sister Nicole and I were on the dance floor doing some dance moves our mom taught us. I could feel her presence in the room and it was beautiful seeing everyone dancing together.

Advice for other engaged couples…
Jōvan: Enjoy the moment of being engaged because it goes by quickly. Remember to take in the memories, you’re creating on your big day.
Brittany: I have 4 things I would tell an engaged couple:
- When planning your wedding you can’t make everyone happy. Plan your wedding based on what you all like as a couple.
- Soak it all in because your wedding day will be over before you know it.
- Don’t forget you’re too blessed to be stressed. Don’t let anyone stress you out during your planning process or on your big day.
- Make sure you’re eating and drinking water throughout your wedding day.
