How they met…
Latoya and Jamar met at a shopping center in Waldorf, Maryland where Jamar was playing baseball and Latoya was working for a Member of Congress who represented the same area. They both happen to be in the right place at the same time. The rest has been history ever since.
Their first date…
Jamar was in the middle of playoff games for his season when they met. They had to wait a couple of weeks until their first official date where they went to dinner and the movies.
The proposal…
Latoya and Jamar went to a birthday dinner that evening. While out at dinner, Latoya received alerts on her phone that all the cameras inside and outside their home had been turned off. Latoya thought it was a brief power outage and the cameras would need to be reset when they returned home.
Following dinner, Jamar’s aunt encouraged Latoya to run some errands with her. She didn’t suspect anything was out of the normal. Little did she know, Jamar had utilized the help of his cousin for a romantic set-up inside their home with candles, rose petals, balloons and champagne.
Once she made it to their home and opened the door, Latoya’s two nieces along with Jamar’s four young cousins wore shirts that read, “Latoya will you marry Jamar?”. She was completely surprised. Latoya’s sister had died three months earlier and it was important to her to have her nieces, whom she has custody of, involved in the proposal.
When they knew they found “the one”…
Jamar: I told Latoya she was the one within the first two weeks after I met her. She was a breath of fresh air in comparison to my past relationships. I introduced her to my family by the end of our first month of dating.
Latoya: We had a long-distance relationship for several years while Jamar played baseball. The longer we went apart, the more I missed him and the more I wanted to be with him.
Engagement session & theme…
While on a wedding planning trip to Mexico, Latoya and Jamar decided to shoot their engagement session in the jungle of Tulum. They wanted something unique and chose the Kanan Tulum Hotel as the backdrop, located on the beach in the Mayan jungle. There are wooden stairways, romantic love nests and branch-woven walkways throughout the hotel.
Favorite thing to do as a couple…
They both love to travel especially to sporting events. They also love to chill at home: a wine and movie night is always a good idea to them.
Wedding planning so far…
Wedding planning has been fun and sometimes stressful. Planning a destination wedding isn’t an easy task but we’ve been grateful to work with some amazing vendors in Mexico!
What they’re looking forward to most…
They’re both looking forward to welcoming 70 of their close friends and family to Mexico for a three-day wedding celebration.
