Tell us how you met and all about the proposal. Melissa and Juraj met in Porto, Portugal at a pub crawl organized by the hotel they were staying at in May 2014. Melissa had been on exchange in the Alps region of France and decided to take a solo trip to Portugal before she was to return to Canada. Juraj was on a much needed holiday from the Hague in Holland. They met that night and Juraj and Melissa became quick friends. They danced and laughed all night and agreed to continue to explore Porto together during their time there. They continued to communicate while Melissa continued her travels and Juraj went back home to Holland. He went to France before Melissa was to return to Canada and it was there they spent their last day of her exchange. They went to Paris where they made their contribution to the famous Locks of Love Bridge and officially agreed to be a couple despite living on different continents. After 2 years of traveling back in forth across the Atlantic ocean to see each other, Melissa and Juraj got engaged on a private boat ride in Venice Italy on August 25th 2016. They celebrated with champagne and a beautiful nighttime boat ride through the canals and the sea surrounding Venice! They were married almost exactly a year later!
What was wedding shopping like for you? I bought my dress in one day! I struggled between two beautiful options but in the end I felt the best in the one I picked and it complimented my venue the best. I didn’t want to get tempted by too many options so I made a final decision rather quickly. My dress is a Blue by Enzoani dress Henley style. It’s vintage and sparkly. It also has a sweetheart neckline with a cathedral length train.
Bridesmaids’ Gifts: The Bridesmaids received rose gold earrings with tear drop crystals.
Favorite item on the menu: Steak!
First dance song: “Can you stand the rain” by New Edition
What is your best memory from your wedding? Checking in with my guests during the reception and dancing! My new husband and I wanted to make sure everyone had a great time!
What is the best wedding advice you can give to engaged couples? Never forget the reason you are getting married. Don’t get too wrapped up in superficialities and nurture the bond with your partner during planning!
