Tell us how you met and all about the proposal. We met 6 years ago through mutual friends and were both coming out of relationships. We had no interest in each other. It was a rollercoaster for about 2 years. We decided in 2014 to move in together and 4 months after that Blake determined we were not “shack-up” material. So he proposed to me on a Saturday morning while I was in my pajamas. It was spontaneous and romantic all in one.
What was wedding shopping like for you? My wedding dress was Maggie Sottero Serencia. I was going no for an old Hollywood vintage glam chic style. I actually originally purchased a dress that was NOT my style. After I decided to keep searching, I came across this jeweled bodice that hugged my curves perfectly. I was in love.
Did you incorporate any culture into your wedding? We incorporated the African tradition of jumping the broom as well as a unity sand ceremony.
Bridesmaids/Groomsmen gifts: Bridesmaids- personalized robes, slippers and massage candles/Groomsmen- mini personalized baseball bats.
Favorite item on the menu: Definitely the paella! It was awesome!
First dance song: “Thinking out loud” (Kizomba remix) by Ed Sheerhan.
What is your best memory from your wedding? Best memory is when Blake spoke from the heart to our kids reminding them that no matter what he will always be there for them.
What is the best wedding advice you can give to engaged couples? Enjoy the moment. Everything goes by so fast it can all become a blur. Making time to take in every special moment will create memories that can’t be captured by picture or video.
