Mia and Marlin’s love story began January of 2015 where they first met during a Nashville Black Chamber of Commerce event. Marlin, immediately aware of Mia’s presence, couldn’t help but walk over and introduce himself. The magnetism between them was unmistakable, and later that evening during a conversation with his best friend, Marlin found himself saying, “I think I just met my wife,” and in that moment knew it couldn’t be more true…

Tell us how you met and all about the proposal. We met in January 2015 during a Nashville Black Chamber of Commerce event here in Nashville. For a good part of the evening, Marlin was checking me out and walked over to introduce himself. The conversation was very casual and light. I love people who can make me laugh and Marlin’s ability to do that in such a short amount of time was intriguing. Hence, he walked away with my business card that night. Later, I found out that Marlin called his best friend Kevin that evening to tell him about me. During their conversation, Marlin told his friend, “I think I just met my wife.” Days later, I received an email from Marlin after the event but we kept it very professional. As cliché as it sounds, timing is everything. It wasn’t until May 2015 that our love story began. I was on LinkedIn and noticed Marlin had viewed my profile. I requested to be his friend and moments later Marlin asked me out on a date. The rest is history…
Date night is every Thursday, however, Marlin told me that this particular Thursday would be the last date night for a while so we could pad our savings. We just bought a home together and furnished a lot for the house, so I didn’t think anything of it. Since this would be the last date night for a while, Marlin told me to dress up. I thought it was kind of strange only because Marlin usually prefers to dress casual on date nights. The weather was awful, pouring down rain and thunder-storming. The first stop was dinner at a restaurant called Urban Grub. This place was special because this is where we had our first date. Marlin began saying so many sweet things to me that night I teared up. For a brief moment, I thought, “OMG, it’s about to happen.” It didn’t. Those tears dried up fast as I mentioned I was cold and Marlin offered me his jacket, and then told me I couldn’t wear it. He forgot just that quick he had the ring in his jacket. I was thinking to myself what a jerk! We left the restaurant and went to the Westin for drinks. We settled in at the bar area, but moments later, Marlin asked if we could move over to the fireplace. He began talking about how much he loved me and my son and how we’ve made his life better. Marlin went on to say he couldn’t let another month pass without me being his fiance. On August 31, 2017, Marlin slowly got down on one knee and asked for me to be his forever…
Describe your engagement session. It was easy, fun and cold! For the formal look we wanted a more classic feel.
What did you do on your first date? Our first date was at a restaurant in Nashville called Urban Grub.
What’s your favorite thing to do as a couple? We love to travel and try new restaurants.
How has wedding planning been so far? Wedding planning has been pretty stress free. We have an amazing planner who is very hands on even though she is in Texas. Marlin is very involved in the details as well and I think that has helped a lot with the process. I really enjoy getting his input on the wedding, after all, it’s his day too!
Tell us what you’re looking forward to most on the wedding day. Family and friends coming together to help us celebrate our union. We have so many plans and can’t wait to get started on them after the wedding. If I’m honest, I am really looking forward to the honeymoon.
