Choreographed dances, black thigh boots for the bridesmaids, and sexy dress changes for the entire bridal party. This black and white themed wedding was one for the books.
Casaundra’s 30th birthday was a day she’ll never forget. She was on the dancefloor living it up on April 29, 2016, when Jordan had the DJ play “You Don’t Know” by Tank. Moments later, he was on one knee proposing.
The couple met back in their high school days, but it was while Casaundra was in college that she realized Jordan was the one. “Once I started college and realized that our love represented patience, understanding, and dedication and saw how we managed to withstand many obstacles and challenges along the way, I had no doubt that Jordan was the one. Our love is continually guided by prayer, hope, and resilience.” – Casaundra
Their Boston wedding was modern perfection, with a black and white color palette accented with silver. Every detail, from the modern black acrylic escort wall to the personalized nameplates at each table setting, was perfectly curated by Hermela of Behind the Design, a Boston-based Event Planning firm and member of our vendor collective, The Coterie. And to tie in with the theme even further, Casaundra AND her bridesmaids changed into sexy long black dresses accessorized with black hats for the reception. Their choreographed dance was one of the highlights of the reception. Read on for more fun details.

Not only were we concerned about making this one of the best night of our lives, but it was extremely important to both Jordan and I to make sure our guests had a blast too. We danced, mingled, took tons of pictures, and made sure we checked off all of the “to-do’s” of the night. Our night ended overlooking the city of Boston from our suite, recapping the entire day – only to realize we forgot to throw the garter & bouquet and we FORGOT TO EAT. We were starving. Exhausted and almost famished, we ordered Chinese food, ate, and fell asleep… full in more ways than one.

Wedding Style
“The wedding shopping process was smoother than I anticipated. I planned a weekend in NY with my bridesmaids to go dress shopping; we had appointments scheduled with four bridal shops. Our first appointment was at Bridal Reflection and it was a one-stop-shop. After trying on two dresses, I tried on the third and instantly knew it was THE DRESS. I had no desire to go elsewhere. It gave me a sophisticated, goddess, yet comfortable feel. Then, a few months later as I was casually shopping with friends in Washington D.C., I found the perfect, most comfortable pair of Louboutins to go with my wedding dress. For my reception dress, I traveled to Texas for a customized dress by Ese Azenabor and again, found the perfect pair of shoes – this time in black.”
Cultural Elements
“Beyonce. Beyonce does it for the culture, so yes indeed, she can arguably be deemed a cultural incorporation… After dinner was served at the reception, my bridesmaids and I went to change into long bodycon black dresses with a slit up the leg and black wide brim fedora hats. We uniformly walked up to the upper balcony of the room to the (Messy Mya & Big Freedia) intro on Formation and proceeded to a choreographed routine which included Beyonce’s signature intense head nodding. We then proceeded down the stairs to join the crowd in a highly amplified moment and playback of “Formation” by Beyonce.”
Grand memories
“Our ring boy, TJ. For months on end, our 3-year-old godson and his parents practiced having him walk down the aisle… Head up! Smile! Walk straight… were some of the most important directives they could offer. He perfected it just in time for the big day and we were confident it would go off without a glitch! Minutes before he was guided from the entrance of the venue to the very aisle he would peruse, he asked his mother if he could turn into a superhero. Mortified at the thought, she firmly reminded him of what they had been practicing. Needless to say, the need to become the Hulk overtook him, and shortly after his entrance, he did just that. Our Ring Security became the HULK and a crowd favorite!”
Wedding Advice
“It’s never too soon to start planning and making payments towards expenses. Before you know, the years become months, months become weeks and weeks become days, then boom, it’s THE DAY of your wedding.”
