Tameka & Jeremy’s Modern Boho Wedding at the Highland Brewing Co. in Asheville, North Carolina was a lovely celebration with muted earth tones, textured florals, and personalized details (including a late-night mac-n-cheese bar and their adorable dog, Miles, as their “pup of honor.”).
Set against the modern backdrop of Highland Brewing Co. in Asheville, North Carolina, Tameka and Jeremy’s love for music and breweries combined at their modern boho wedding. Working again with their engagement photographer, William Avery Photography, the pair also worked closely with their wedding planner, Chelsea Lynch of Lucky Day Events Co., to bring their wedding vision of “modern elegance and muted boho” vibes to life.
And their vendor team delivered! Highlights of the evening included an intimate first look, a special choreographed first dance at their reception, and epic performances by the live band: Emerald Empire Band.

- Wedding location: Asheville, NC, US
- Date of wedding: Apr 24, 2022
Inspiration & design details…
We took inspiration from our favorite colors and the decor around our home for our color palette. We spent a lot of time on the design aesthetic of our house, so we knew we could translate that to our wedding design.
A pair of curtains from Society6 and an accent wall at our old apartment painted sage green helped us start our design inspiration. Jeremy’s favorite color is green, and Tameka’s is pink, so we had to include those too!
The vibe was modern elegance and muted boho, so we incorporated the following colors into our palette: terracotta, earthy oranges, champagne, blush, cream, and sage green.
Style & the dress…
I wanted to incorporate a romantic look. For my hair, I was inspired by Issa Rae’s wedding hair design and I wanted to incorporate a natural hairstyle so I went with a simple middle part and added texture with curls. For my dress, I loved that it had a slit and was equal parts romantic and sexy.
Floral details…
Our florist Flora took a whimsical take on a traditional bouquet. For my bridal bouquet, she incorporated seasonal and textural greenery with an organic flow and seasonal blooms in shades of butter yellow, sage green, blush, mauve, muted, and earthy orange tones.
We used pops of floral color local grasses foraged elements and greenery for our bridesmaids’ bouquets, wristlet corsages for the mothers, boutonnieres for the groom, groomsmen, ring bearer, and father of the groom, as well as a dog collar for our pup Miles and of course our flower girl who wore a half flower crown with coordinating botanicals.
The suit…
I didn’t want to look like a typical groom in a boring white or black tux. I also didn’t want to choose the newly established “bold” choice of wearing navy. Instead, I wanted something personal to my style, and since my favorite color is green, that’s what I went with.
I like interior design and I was inspired by our apartment decor, so I wanted people to recognize my own style within the choices I made with the suit. The special touch to my suit was the custom purple jacket lining and embroidered message with my grandmother’s favorite saying. She had recently passed away so I wanted to carry her with me on the special day.
Their first look…

The ceremony…
For the ceremony, we used textural elements like pampas, grass, greenery, and florals on our arbor, which was repurposed behind the sweetheart table. Behind the arbor, we had tall and whimsical lush greenery grasses and dried botanicals.
Mr. & Mrs…
Decor & DIY details…
We were really hands-on and worked alongside our planner Chelsea Lynch of Lucky Day Events, to include different textures and tones that made the space feel grounded in our aesthetic. The warm colors felt romantic and rustic from the rich burnt orange velvet runner for our sweetheart table, blush chargers, and green water glasses.
We had a few DIY elements that Tameka made with her Cricut, including acrylic name cards at each guest’s table, the ceremony welcome sign, and table signs named after places we’ve been to, like “First Ave” in Minneapolis that were special to us.
Reception decor details…
We repurposed the bridesmaids’ bouquets with brass-toned vases and blush taper candlesticks for the reception guest tables and created a greenery candle scape, coordinating taper candles and a collection of mixed height votives. These were embellished with coordinating greenery and foraged elements with light touches of floral. We also used lush and whimsical greenery along the bottom of the stairway to complement the placement of the sweetheart table.
Personalized details…
We had a macaroni and cheese bar. One of the options gave the nod to our love of cajun food. Our late-night snack were Juicy Lucy burgers as an ode to the bride’s hometown of Minneapolis. For a special twist on the classic version, we created two versions: Gouda and cheddar. Welcome bags were personalized with the bride and groom’s favorite snacks. We also had a his and hers cocktail that were twists on our favorite cocktails – a mezcal mule and cucumber gimlet with beautiful dried florals.
We had our 1-year old Aussie-doodle dog, Miles, as our “pup of honor.” He walked down the aisle with our best man and matron of honor. We wanted to have fun, and a special way for our guests was to have an audio guest book.
Additionally, we had a fun setup with a comfy, stylish velvet orange chair and table for our green dial phone from After the Tone. We showcased our love of music with a very special choreographed first dance and a performance from our live band.
Favorite wedding day memories…
Jeremy: The first dance because we wanted to put on a show for our guests as well as ourselves. We took a leap of faith after one month of dance lessons.
Tameka: The first look. We were running behind so I was a bit anxious to get that started so that the rest of the day could officially start! All the waiting was worth it.
Advice for other engaged couples…
As far as wedding planning advice we would recommend trusting your instincts. You’ve most likely never planned a wedding before, but you have probably been to a few. Go with what you would enjoy experiencing as a wedding guest.
It’s also important to take breaks from planning. Wedding planning is an overwhelming and sometimes long process, so make sure you take time off to recharge and not think about the wedding and enjoy each other.
Sometimes, less is more. You can get overwhelmed with inspiration from TikTok, Pinterest, and other design blogs, but the key is to remember what is important to you and what reflects the story you want to tell at your wedding.
