Patrick and Saba’s love story will make you believe in fate.
Saba shares, “Patrick and I were introduced to each other by our parents. My mother and his father actually dated over 50 years ago. Patrick’s father visited him in Georgia and told him that coincidentally his first love lived in Georgia as well. He asked if Patrick could take him over to her house to meet her, and I was there. As crazy as this may sound, in my heart, I believe that Patrick and I were destined to be together. I believe that our love story was kismet and that our parents did not work out so that we could, I know that our forever was written before we were even born.”
After a surprise proposal during a romantic dinner celebrating Saba’s birthday, they started wedding planning. Patrick and Saba are all about glamour, style, and fashion! Since they were married during Halloween weekend, they chose a bold, sexy black and white color palette for their special day. Saba paired her romantic shimmering ballgown with sparkling Gucci shoes. Patrick matched her fly with a shimmering scarf accompanying his dashing all-black tuxedo. The bridesmaids showed off their shoe game with designer Loubouitn red bottoms!
The ceremony featured over-sized white hydrangea florals in bold onyx urns. Each guest received a photo magazine with their engagement photos in a customized box stamped with Saba and Patrick’s wedding monogram. Everyone was shocked and excited to have a beautiful memoir to keep as the wedding program.
This stylish couple made sure to infuse their culture into their reception. Saba shares, “We had traditional Jamaican dishes Patrick’s favorite as well as Southern dishes my favorite.” The DJ pumped up the sounds from Saba’s home town of NYC mixed in with a little island flavor from Pat’s home of Jamaica.

How did you meet.
Patrick and I were introduced to each other by our parents. My mother and his father actually dated over 50 years ago, Patrick’s father visited him in Georgia and told him that coincidentally his first love lived in Georgia as well, and he asked if Patrick could take him over to her house to meet her, and I was there.
Tell us about the proposal.
My proposal was perfect because I love surprises and it was the biggest I have had to date. It was Patrick’s birthday and he asked if I wanted to go to dinner to celebrate. I obliged and we went to my favorite restaurant Fogo de Ciao. When it was time for his cake the waiter brought it and will you marry me was written around it in chocolate. I proceeded to eat the cake not even noticing what was written around it and was floored when he got on bended knee and asked for my hand in marriage. I still get emotional reminiscing on it!
Tell us about your wedding!
Our wedding was inspired by true love! As crazy as this may sound, in my heart, I believe that Patrick and I were destined to be together. I believe that our love story was kismet and that our parents did not work out so that we could, I know that our forever was written before we were even born.
We got married on Halloween weekend hence the black decor and black bouquet besides black being my favorite color. We incorporated our West Indian cultures in our food selection. We had traditional Jamaican dishes Patrick’s favorite as well as Southern dishes my favorite and thanks to our Chef Holly of Phenomenal Foods our wedding dinner was the best that I have ever had to date! In retrospect, every element of our wedding day was a mesh of all of our favorite things and our decisions were a compromise that we both agreed on together.
Let’s talk about wedding decor. How did you decorate your space for the ceremony and the reception?
It all begins with great rapport! I had several consultations with my florist and we definitely were on the same accord. She was equally as excited as I was throughout the entire process. I visualized what I wanted and she brought it to fruition. My favorite color is black and Patrick’s is white so we combined our favorite colors and it was a perfect combination. We had black drapes that gave a very dramatic backdrop to the white centerpiece! We had black pillars adorned by huge white flower balls that lead our way down the aisle and accented by an array of candles it was so dreamy. I purchased and created all of my accents on Etsy. I am detail-oriented so I took time to find a calligrapher that worked one on one with me to create my acrylic place cards, table numbers, card box, seating chart, welcome signage and bar signage.
What were the florals like in your wedding?
OMG! I am still in awe of the floral design, my florist Alisa of The Perfect Creation lived up to her name! My decor was predominantly black and white with hints of silver. Patrick and I wanted modern looks to match our style & it was delivered! I used flowers in every element of my decor my bridesmaids had an all-white bouquet and I chose to have a black bouquet of roses! Our centerpieces and flower balls were to die for and the ceremony backdrop was the perfect focal point of the venue. I loved the design and my favorite accent the cherry blossom trees were a highlight!
Did you personalize the day in any way? What were some of your favorite parts of your wedding?
There were so many favorite parts to my wedding day. If I had to choose one it would be selecting Orchestra Noir. Patrick and I were able to select all of the songs that they played and it all flowed so perfectly. We both included our parents in the song selections as well so we had a perfect mix of all of our favorites by Stevie Wonder, Nat King Cole, Luther Vandross, Whitney Houston, John Legend & Brian McKnight. Our families grew up together on the same block in Brooklyn New York as youngsters so it was amazing to see them all reconnect on our wedding day. It was like a family reunion with great music and dancing, definitely a sight to be seen! Our DJ and emcee were both amazing and kept us all on our feet all night!
Let’s talk fashion. How did you both choose your wedding day look?
Patrick and I pride ourselves on being fashion-forward and love to make fashion statements. I told him I wanted to feel like a princess and sparkle. I opted to wear a Lazaro gown that literally sparkled the entire night with matching Gucci glitter pumps. Patrick chose to wear a Maison Martin Margiella tuxedo with matching Christian Louboutin shoes. I wanted to do traditional with an edge and I promised him that he would shine just as me because it was his day too and that he did, his tuxedo had a scarf made of mirrors that complemented my sparkles just perfectly! Our bridal party all wore black. Early on in my planning process, I envisioned my bridesmaids as vixens with red lips and red bottoms, & sexy black gowns with skits & trains, and it was the perfect accent to the groomsmen in their all blacks sleek tuxedos. I also requested that all of my guests wear black as well which they obliged. I wanted to stand out as a swan in a sea of black and that I did!
What was the most anticipated or special moment of your wedding day?
What’s interesting is that the most anticipated moment and most special moment were different. We both were looking forward to the reveal and it definitely was a wow moment because it touched my heart and literally brought me to tears to see my vision executed to perfection. The most special moment was definitely when we exchanged our vows because we didn’t have any prepared so we both just spoke from the heart. I don’t think either of us has ever been that emotional and it was because we truly expressed how deeply we felt about one another and it was heartfelt and raw!
Do you have any wedding planning or marriage advice that you’d like to share with other couples planning their day?
I definitely would advise hiring a wedding planner because I could not have done it all without the support of mine. I started planning a year from my date and still felt like I needed more time. Take time to shop around and get to know your vendors. I have formed a lasting friendship with my photographer Kam because I got to know her and vice versa prior to the shoot. So, when we met, it was so natural, and I felt like I was hanging out with a friend and just taking selfies. I personally sought out every vendor that I hired because I literally followed all of their pages and respected and admired their work long before I reached out to them. Last but not least, create a vision board and do not deviate from what you have envisioned your special day to be. Hire the vendors that you know are capable of executing your dream come true and it will be just that!
