Shaunta and Leon met as children in the same church. The two frequently saw each other but never had an interest in becoming anything more than acquaintances. It wasn’t until they were both in their 20s that they started to look at one another through different eyes. They’d attempted to get together twice within a matter of three years, but it never seemed to be the right time. Finally, in 2014 they ran into each other and engaged in the beginning of forever.
The couple’s engagement session was a combination of modern style and fantasy. “I wanted everyone to see that I am literally living a fairytale,” Shaunta shares. Photographed in both downtown Oklahoma City and Lake Hefner–a nod to their first date–the e-session was classy, fun, and ethereal. Tell us all about the proposal!
The proposal was absolutely perfect. He took me to the lake for what I thought was dinner but we actually took a slight turn to the lighthouse and he asked me “Do you remember where our first date was?” Unfortunately, I did not quite remember right off the bat because I was too busy trying to figure out why there was a photographer playing peek-a-boo around the lighthouse and then he dropped to his knee and asked me to be his wife.
What did you do on your first date?
We went to Lake Hefner and hung out at the lake and took a stroll around the water.
What’s your favorite thing to do as a couple?
We love hanging out at home. I usually throw on one of his big t-shirts and we will crash on the couch and watch Netflix.
How has wedding planning been so far?
It’s been a great experience thus far. We have an amazing wedding planner and she is managing to produce exactly what we need and want for that big day.
Tell us what you’re looking forward to most on the wedding day.
Telling my future husband “I do” and taking his last name.
