Alex and Paul’s wedding, captured by Nishimoto Photography, celebrated the magic and excitement of their Motor City wedding within one of the city’s most historic venues.
With their wedding day filled with traditions like the jumping the broom and the sweetheart song from Paul and his Kappa fraternity brothers, this romantic tale was made even sweeter with Munafav, Justin Alexander, who’s custom gown adorned our beautiful bride.
After meeting through a mutual friend while they were helping on the campaign trail, the couple became friends and after accepting a dinner invite from Paul (which was only supposed to be ONE date), Alex said yes to a SECOND date, and well, the rest is history.
The gorgeous couple even had their engagement session featured on our blog with their adorable little fur baby who stole the show in their photos!

How they met…
We met while working on a political campaign for Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx.
Wedding style…
Our attire was cocktail.
Their first look…
Wedding shopping experience…
It was a lot of fun. My mom and I went to four bridal shops together in Chicago. I found two dresses I liked by the same design – Justin Alexander – and asked him to put them together. So he did! They made an custom overskirt that I took off after the first dance for a more fitted look.
Memories…
Probably our first look. We were both anxious and excited to see each other and when we did we could exhale, smile, and the real party could begin – we had a ball! It was such an amazing day, having everyone you love in one place celebrating is such a blessing.
Celebrating culture…
We jumped the broom after the ceremony was complete. We also took photo’s with wedding party all around the city of Detroit before the ceremony – not exactly cultural – but unique to Detroit, we visited the Charles H Wright African American Museum, The FOX Theatre, The Detroit Art Institute, The Detroit Riverfront and of course the Fisher. Since we live in Chicago, but Alex grew-up in Metro Detroit, it was important to her to come back home for this special day and to show off her city.
Before you say I’Do…
With Covid and traveling you may want to account for what I am now calling a “flake-rate” our flake rate was higher than I expected. We received a lot of text messaged the days before saying “we are so sorry but…”. Just something to account for in your budget.
