Tell us about how you met and all about the proposal!
We connected on a social networking site in 2010 and we soon realized that there was amazing chemistry between us so we developed a friendship which, over time, progressed into a relationship.
On March 30, 2013, we hung out to shop, eat at a fine restaurant, and see a movie. After the movie, I got quite emotional about one of the characters in the movie who was a marriage counsellor. We began talking about the marriage lessons we learned from the movie and the conversation took a romantic turn when Femi ended on his knees popping the question!
Due to our love for fashion, music, cultural heritage, and our Christian faith, we had a blend of styles. It was a blend of contemporary/modern, classical and African-traditional elegance. Our wedding venue, outfits, decorations and jewelry were very colorful.
My wedding dress was elegant and classy and was the perfect fit for me. My Brooch Bouquet (made by Osaro Jewels) was my favorite accessory because it contained little pieces of crystals that matched the swarovski crystal on my wedding dress.
We had a Nigerian engagement ceremony also referred to as the “Traditional Wedding” right before the formal wedding. The focus is on the families (including extended family and friends) meeting each other, joining to become one family, and formally giving their approval and blessings to the couple.
One of our best memories was at the altar when we said our vows. We had formal vows written for us, but could not find them, so we spoke to each other from the heart and freely expressed ourselves.
Help a bride-to-be out!
Always pray together, plan together and do not let the stress of the wedding preparations get to you. As you prepare for the wedding, remember that there is no perfect wedding. Be sure to communicate with your vendors and ensure they are onboard with the plans you have for them. Remember this bible verse: “And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.” Colossians 3:14.
