Recently, we learned about the abrupt closing of a popular wedding venue called reBar in Brooklyn, NY. The restaurant had been in trouble for failing to pay more than $1 million in taxes on the restaurant. Owner, Jason Stevens, abruptly closed the restaurant with a sign reading “reBar is closed and bankrupt. Do not enter.” Employees arrived for work and were greeted by the sign and have not been provided with any explanation or their last paychecks. Even worse, almost 200 couples were out of their wedding venue, most of them paying over $15,000 to reserve the space.
The biggest issue in addition to losing the venue, is that reBar offered “all-inclusive” weddings including flowers, food, etc. Now these couple have to begin planning their weddings from scratch.
As soon as we heard about the news we inquired with New York area members of our wedding collective, The Coterie, to see if any of them would be willing to donate their services to some of these couples and the response was amazing. Today we are launching the #MunaCares initiative. In this initiative our members have teamed up to offer FREE services to one lucky couples. Other couples that are affected will also be able to speak directly with our members about the services they can offer. The entry period starts today and ends on July 1st. See below for entry details.
