If you’ve been following us for a while, you know that when it comes to color, we definitely do not shy away. And that’s why we totally adore this beauty editorial shoot put together by our Style Contributor, Lerkia of MODAGE. It’s bursting with color, personality, and the most ridiculously adorable headpieces we’ve seen courtesy of Sarah Mendoza of By Design Events. Lerkia had a chance to also chat it up with the makeup artist, Jamaya Moore. Read the interview and enjoy the pics!
From Lerkia:
I had the pleasure of collaborating with Jamaya Moore on a recent natural hair beauty shoot earlier this month and she is very talented. We chatted about various looks that would compliment a bride should she want to add drama to her lips during her special day. Since many brides opt for a natural look, our goal with this shoot was to highlight the models flawless skin, facial bone structure, highlighted coils and statement floral headpieces. The possibilities were endless and after the shoot, I asked Jamaya Moore the following questions:
How long have you been a professional makeup artist?
I began doing makeup in late 2007.
Where are you based?
I’m based in Baltimore but I travel to DC & NYC for various projects.
How did you build your professional portfolio?
Shortly after finishing makeup school, I began seeking out photographers on Model Mayhem looking for makeup artists and they would provide images for my time and work. I eventually found a great team to work with who had the same vision.
Do you do airbrush makeup? How did you learn airbrush makeup? Self-taught or classes?
Yes, I airbrush. In 2009, I attended a class at Temptu in NYC. After the class, I was so intimidated. I didn’t airbrush for a year and when I did, I clogged my equipment so bad that I sent it to LA for cleaning.
How do you achieve the look of a flawless complexion?
I observe the client or models skin to determine which areas need the most attention. I ensure the skin is properly moisturized and hydrated before applying foundation. I’ve learned that foundation doesn’t have to be applied over the entire face. I only cover unevenness or blemishes.
How do you handle creative differences and dealing with various personalities and styles?
I’m a Libra so I’m very social and diplomatic. I listen to all opinions and weigh the pros and cons before making a decision or taking sides. I get along with just about everyone. I don’t take minor things to heart. You have to have thick skin to work in this industry.
How much bridal work do you do versus your other work?
60% commercial and 40& bridal. During the week, I typically work with corporate clients on various print/web/video productions. Weekends are strictly for my brides.
What are some of your favorite products that you use regularly and can’t live without?
MAC Eyeshadows, Stila Lip Glaze, Milani Liquid Eyeliner, MAC Mineralize SkinFinish, Tarte Amazonian Clay Waterproof Liner
