A Nautical Themed Engagement Session in Norfolk, VA

“As with any journey, who you travel with can be more important than your destination”

Weade Wallace and David James are a couple who loves trying new things, especially traveling, and who better to travel with than with the one you love. Since they love being tourists and exploring different cultures, it was fitting that David propose to Weade on one of their adventures together. David made plans to go to San Francisco for the weekend where they drove to Big Sur and enjoyed the beautiful views of the mountains, oceans and coastline. Although Weade was certain that this trip was just like another weekend getaway, she did have suspicions about David’s behavior. The bride-to-be shares, “He was acting a bit awkward and was overly protective of his laptop bag. He had it with him at every stop we made.” Little did she know that David was actually guarding her beautiful engagement ring. They were at a restaurant and the timing was perfect: sunset, orange and yellow hues on the horizon, and they had the perfect views of the ocean. As they were heading out, they stopped and sat by the fireplace outside of the restaurant and shared conversations with tourists. David asked one of them to take a photo. Weade had no idea that this was finally the moment she was waiting for. After several snapshots, David kneeled on one knee and surprised Weade with the most memorable moment of her life.

How They Met

We met on a Friday night out in D.C. at a dance lounge. I had just finished weeks of writing papers after a stressful graduate school semester so I was overdue for some fun times!

We went to Lucky Strikes and to the Sculpture Garden in D.C.

Favorite Thing to do as a Couple

We love to try new restaurants, experience new cultures, travel and visit museums together.

The Engagement Session

The amazing photographer, Keith Cephus, shot our engagement session. Keith is so creative and wonderful at what he does. We planned on a nautical theme so we decided to do have the session in the Norfolk, VA area. We didn’t want an overly done theme therefore we kept it simple with a few props. For our final look, we decided to go with more formal attire.

Wedding Planning

Wedding planning is a process. It is very exciting but also can be overly time consuming. We’re both very busy with our careers so we don’t have a whole lot of time to plan every single detail of the wedding. We do have a wedding planner to assist. My favorite part so far has been trying on dresses and cake tasting and the enjoyable parts of the planning process.
