Having initially met through mutual friends, Nicoya and Robert weren’t looking to rush into a relationship. Taking things slow they began as friends and over time those feelings of friendship began to blossom into romance. When the time came, their first date almost didn’t happen due to getting caught up in the office, cancelling their dinner reservations. But some quick thinking created a more casual dining evening where the sparks flew and they both realized the true potential of their connection – setting them on the path of together forever…

Bride & Groom: Nicoya & Robert
Occupation: Social worker & Store Manager
Wedding Date: 13/10/2018
Wedding Venue: Hyatt-Wynfrey Birmingham
How did you meet? Robert and I met through a mutual friend in 2014. Neither of us were looking to run into a relationship. We developed a friendship and the rest is history. We dated three and half years before getting engaged. We have been together almost four years now.
Tell us about your first date. Our first date was almost a no-go. Robert is a work-a-holic. He left work late and almost stood me up. The restaurant was closed and he wanted to reschedule but I said no because I was cute and ready. We ended up at Applebees and had an awesome time.
Tell us about the proposal. Robert shook me off my feet. I threw myself a 30th birthday party on my actual birthday, December 29, 2018. I wanted to celebrate with close family and friends. I had no clue it was coming. He created this board that had a message made of candy about his feelings for me. After I read it, he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.
What made you choose this location for your engagement session? I’ve lived in “B-Ham” my entire life and we are having a lot of out of town guests so I chose the “it’s nice to have you in Birmingham sign” as a way of welcoming our guests to my city and I also just like the sign. Now the other locations were the creative genius ideas of my photographer.
What was your inspiration for your engagement session? I wanted to shoot some fun and bright shots but also something glam. I wanted to show both sides of us.
What is your favorite thing to do as a couple? Concerts…anything involving music.
What are you MOST looking forward to about your wedding? The turn up! Celebrating with all of our loved ones. Our families and friends mean a lot to us and we can’t wait to share this day with them.
What is the best wedding advice you can give to engaged couples? Enjoy the moment of being engaged before jumping into planning.
