Bridal Fashion Week served us with a kaleidoscope of wedding dresses and looks, letting us know that the brides of 2023 are going to be bolder and more authentic to their own bridal stories.
With the Council of Fashion Designers of America’s (CFDA’s) official summer press release heralding its invitation for designers to apply for the upcoming fall bridal collections for NY Bridal Fashion Week, we set our collective gaze upon what the concepteurs of bridal fashion would parade in front of the yearning gazes of future brides.
Right before our eyes, bridal fashion is evolving. Silhouettes that are hardly recognized as traditionally bridal are forcing us to rethink what bridal can be. With looks ranging from bows to texture, mermaidcore, minimalism, color, and unexpected details, designers told a variety of stories that came from their own fantasies, experiences, and hopes.
NY Bridal Fashion Week: How It Works
New York Bridal Fashion Week is held twice a year in April and then again in October. Designers present their collections for the spring and fall of the subsequent year. The Bridal Council along with the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), which owns the pink hued fashion calendar, provide the most comprehensive coverage along with fashion trade journal, Women’s Wear Daily.
Prior to the pandemic these presentations would be in person and shown to a select few attendees. With the onset of the global pandemic fashion like every other industry had to pivot and the shows are now presented to a wider digital audience than ever before. Bridal fashion week is important because it’s a glimpse into how external factors affect fashion in general. By looking at what the designers are presenting you are seeing a visual commentary of how political, cultural, and other external factors affect what designers are sending out of their ateliers and onto the runways.
Brimming With Bows..
This fashion motif has always had a special place in fashion’s heart and its back dominating the bridal collections for 2023.
Color Coded…
Black and blue-hued looks are becoming a staple offering during the collections. These blue and black looks are definitely ones to consider.
Glorious Gloves
This accessory which seemed to be relegated to a bygone era and synonymous with Queen Elizabeth II has made a stunning fashion comeback. On the runway and red carpet, gloves long or short, sheer or colorful will definitely take your gown to the next level.
Sexy Silhouettes
Brides in 2023 are looking to create a more authentic bridal experience with their looks and their bodies front and center more than ever before.
Touchable Texture
Appliques and more were a hot trend during fashion week. Dresses that make you want to touch them up close were a hit with designers.
Mermaidcore
Not only ruling the catwalk but Tik Tok as well, Mermaidcore is all about interpreting what a sea maiden would look like attending a glamorous onshore event and in this case her very own wedding.
