Tashinea and Junior took to Atlanta, Georgia for their engagement session to celebrate their upcoming nuptials this winter. The two have come a long way since their first date, a movie and late night park stroll followed by conversation on a nearby bench. Many movie nights and conversations later, this beautiful couple has planned a destination wedding in Montego Bay, Jamaica. Set to take place right in the middle of the holidays on December 27th, this couple has plenty to revel in this Christmas.
Tell us about how you met and all about the proposal!
I met him at a Delta Omega car wash while I was a Delta IG. He kept flirting with me but I kept pushing him off because I didn’t want the Deltas to think I was flirting with him. After that encounter, I would bump into him occasionally at parties and we would chat via Facebook. One day, he sent a Facebook message to all of his Facebook friends asking everyone to send him their phone numbers because he had gotten a new phone. I responded to his post “Wow! Did you really have that many numbers in your phone? P-I-M-P! Do it big then!” He responded “Yeah, over 500 and I got room for one more special number.”
Shortly after, we went on our first date and started hanging out a lot. One day, he invited me to his house party, so I brought my best friend, Caroline and roommate, Juanita with me. About 30 minutes to an hour into the party he came to me out of nowhere and said, “I’m gonna marry you one day either this lifetime or the next but I’m gonna marry you. Mark my words, on this day, September 2, 2006. I’m gonna marry you!” I looked up at him smiled and then said “Well, technically its the 3rd since it’s after midnight!”
His Side of the Story:
In late Spring of 2006, I was introduced to Tashinea in the FSU Student Union by my cousin Leif. It was a brief introduction that Tashinea doesn’t even remember however it was an interaction that I would never forget. I didn’t see Tashinea again until later that summer at a Que – Delta car wash. She was trying to ignore me since she was a Delta IG however I was still able to get her to go out on a date with. On the date, she continued to reiterate that she was not looking for a relationship and officially placed us in the friend zone, so I thought. One evening that Fall, I had a house party where Tashinea and her best friend, Caroline were present. I told Tashinea that I was going to marry her that night. She laughed it off.
It was Thanksgiving Day and we were at my grandmother’s house in Jacksonville. Everyone had just eaten and my grandmother called everyone to say, one by one what we were thankful for. As guests were talking, I was looking at pictures on my sister’s camera. Tthen it was my turn. I said what I was thankful for and then continued looking at pictures. When Junior went, he ended his statement with, “Lastly, I’m thankful for this beautiful young lady right here. She’s the light of my life and I’m truly grateful for her.” I looked up and smiled and waved at everyone then quickly went back to the camera. Then I heard, “And I wanted to ask her mother if I could have her hand in marriage.”
I looked up in shock, confused at what just happened. Quickly, the camera was taken out of my hand. Junior dug in his pocket and pulled out a wood finished box. I was in complete awe. I turned around and started crying in disbelief. As I turned back around, he was on one knee.
Suddenly, we heard a loud crash (due to a jump of excitement) as dishes fell and broke to the floor. My family was hysterical. Through all of the commotion, our eyes were locked on each other. He began. “Tashinea, I love you dearly you are my soulmate and I couldn’t imagine life without you. Will you do me the honor of being my wife? Will you marry me?” Before I could say anything, my Aunt came running out of nowhere, saw Junior on one knee, hastily grabbed the box and started screaming “Yes, yes, yes, she will!” My mother yelled at her to give the box back to Junior. Finally, the box back in the right hand, I said, “Yes, of course!”
The engagement session…
We were going for three different looks. The first look was a more classic, chic, 1920s look which was shot at the W Hotel. Since our wedding is a destination wedding, we wanted one of the themes to evolve around travel so our second look was at a private airport. Finally, Junior is an Omega and I’m a Delta so in the last look, we knew we had to represent our respective greek letter organizations.
How has wedding planning been so far?
Wedding planning has been great so far. We didn’t really recognize exactly how much planning it would take to pull off a destination wedding but it is still a great learning experience.
Tell us what you’re looking forward to most on the wedding day.
We’re looking forward to marrying one another and reading our vows before the eyes of God. Also looking forward to the speeches, music and drinks!
