How did you meet? Shermain and I met at my cousin’s “Welcome Home” party the summer of 2011. We were instantly intrigued with each other that day and engaged in conversation for hours. That evening, I was anxious to go home to find him on Facebook. I browsed through pictures and requested to become his friend, but never uttered a word. Later that year, Thanksgiving Day to be exact, Shermain messaged me on Facebook and we began a conversation that never ended. We finally decided it was time to go on a date in January of 2012. It has been history in the making ever since!
Tell us your proposal story. The proposal is unforgettable! Shermain was able to successfully surprise Lauren by planning a beautiful trip to the Mississippi Museum of Art. Every third Thursday the museum hosts “About Last Thursday,” an after hours cocktail social to showcase local artists. Lauren thought this was just a fancy date night out. Shermain led Lauren through the various interactive galleries until they were stopped by a security guard and told that a particular section was closed. Lauren was greatly disappointed as they turned to leave. (Of course, Shermain knew what was happening!) Shermain told Lauren that he needed to use the restroom before they left. So, Lauren sat down and waited for him. Shermain comes back to the lobby and tells Lauren that there was a small portion of the museum that they could still visit, which was the book gallery. Upon entering the area, one of the tasks was to “share a thought, or quote, and leave it in a book for other visitors.” Shermain asked Lauren if she wanted to write one and she answered, yes. As Lauren begins to reach down to grab a bookmark to write on, Shermain brings to her attention that she dropped one. When she picked up the bookmark off the floor and turned around, Shermain was suddenly on one knee. Lauren was stunned! She then read her bookmark which said, “WILL YOU MARRY ME?” As Shermain gives a beautiful speech expressing his love, a photographer emerges, champagne is poured, and Lauren says “YES”!
Describe your engagement session. We did not have a theme for the engagement session. I was extremely nervous the day of our photo shoot because I wanted everything to be perfect. Shermain was calm as usual and told me to relax. His exact words, “Our love will resonate through the pictures no matter what we wear or how we pose.” He always provides my peace during a storm! The pictures portray the story of our relationship whether it be in our Greek, formal, or casual attire; love and laughter are always on the agenda.
What did you do on your first date? Our first date was definitely not typical! I vividly remember coming to Mississippi to visit my Grandmother to catch a break from school during MLK weekend. We went to church that Sunday morning and had brunch immediately afterwards. Later that evening, we met up again to go to the movies. The next day I returned to school in New Orleans and we managed to arrange dates through the years despite the distance.
What’s your favorite thing to do as a couple? As a couple, our favorite things to do are travel and eat! We are extremely adventurous when it comes to traveling to new places. Shermain and I love exploring new cities, embracing various cultures, trying new foods, and making memories that will last a lifetime. Our staycations on the countryside, when we travel to his hometown, are weekends that I love because of the amazing view and comfy bed!
How has wedding planning been so far? Wedding planning has been fantastic. We have grown so much as a couple. This experience is our dream come true and we are cherishing each moment. Our wedding planner has also been a great help. There are so many unique touches that can be utilized to make each couple’s day special. Our goal has been to have fun and do what makes us happy!
Tell us what you’re looking forward to most on the wedding day. I am looking forward to officially being called Mrs. Page! Shermain is my best friend and I am so elated that he has chosen me to be his partner for life!
