With most events moving to outdoors, we’ve seen so many engagement sessions being done outdoors this year. And it’s totally refreshing! Who wouldn’t want to take advantage of good light and gorgeous landscapes for their engagement shoot?
The Balboa Park, with its 1200 acres of open space, natural vegetation, and walking paths was the perfect location for Savannah and Phillip. “It was great to have some time to ourselves to really enjoy each other’s presence and make it all about us. This year has been full of so much uncertainty, so it was nice to take the time to celebrate our love,” Savannah says. How did you meet?
We met in the Spring of 2017 in Cancun Mexico. Phil without hesitation approached me while they were all with our groups of friends and began talking. A small bold move turned into several hours of conversation getting to know one another we discovered we were miles apart: Michigan and San Diego; however, the distance between us did not cease. We made weekly connections for one another while I finished my studies in Reno for Philosophy-Ethnics Law Politics. Phil began making visits to my school and later the following year moved to San Diego and so did I on account of graduating and receiving my Masters from Pepperdine University in Legal Studies.
Tell us your proposal story:
Phil proposed to me on my Birthday of this year in the presence of my family to witness it. He first gave me a pearl necklace as my birthday gift, and as I turned around to request he put them on me, he was down on one knee! He’s truly my best friend. The phrase “opposites attract” is very true for us. Phil is very cool, calm, and collected, and I’m the one who operates off of emotion and like to laugh and joke around.
Describe your engagement shoot. Did you have a theme?
Our engagement session was such a breath of fresh air. It was great to have some time to ourselves to really enjoy each other’s presence and make it all about us. This year has been full of so much uncertainty, so it was nice to take the time to celebrate our love.
What did you do on your first date?
He flew 1900 miles to Nevada from Detroit to visit me on our first real date! We had been FaceTiming on the phone for 7 months before we finally decided to date!
What’s your favorite thing to do as a couple?
We love to sit at home and binge-watch The Office and Game of Thrones. We also love to travel, try new restaurants, and spend time with our families together.
How has wedding planning been so far?
It’s been fun! It’s been a little difficult, trying to adjust to the new normal in the midst of planning, but we are making it work. We are trying to find excitement in the little things and have faith that our day will be even better than we can imagine.
Tell us what you’re looking forward to most on the wedding day:
Phil: “I’m most looking forward to seeing you in your dress.” Savannah: I can’t wait to see him dressed up in a tux. I’m also so excited to have a whole day to celebrate our love, and have everyone close to us witness it as well!
