Two fashion news stories are heating up social media chatter thanks in part to the $2 million dollar Hermes bag and the $6K Kanye West for Giuseppe Zanotti heels. Is this simply a case of fashion over-indulgence hoopla or is it a pre-cursor to more overpriced luxury goods hoopla?
Kanye West first made his womenswear fashion designer debut when he unveiled his Dw Spring/Summer 2012 runway presentation during Paris Fashion Week last season. Much ado was made about his white knit, beaded heels. Kanye undoubtedly knows and understands how much women loves their shoes.
Hermes, a luxury brand, has not only defied heated backlash when it created the world’s most expensive pure gold handbag, but it rightfully placed itself in a growing category of overpriced luxury goods. Pierre Hardy collaborated with Hermes to design the miniature handbag which is adorned by over 1,600 diamonds and it reportedly took over 2 years to complete. The pure gold, diamond-encrusted limited-edition bag was designed for Hermes’ successful Kelly and Birkin line. Hermes will release four signature styles adorned with precious stones. The kicker here is that luxury crocodile-skin bag is meant be to worn as a wrist bracelet.
