“When you meet someone that you instantly connect with and share many of the same goals and aspirations with, it’s difficult not to fall head over heels in love with that person,” Jason says. He met Davitta at a party through two mutual friends who were dating at the time. They were both in college and starting their careers so love was the furthest thing from their minds; but that’s the thing about love, it catches you the moment you aren’t looking. After 6 months of dating they decided to make things a little more official and became a couple.
Using a bit of their wedding day colors, Davitta and Jason wanted an engagement session that was a reflection of them and their big day. Maroon, a tulle skirt, and the beautiful outdoors make this e-session both beautiful and delightful. Take a look at Davitta and Jason’s playful outdoor engagement session in Meridian Hill Park. Tell us all about the proposal!
The proposal was simple, however gorgeous. I told her I wanted to surprise her and take her somewhere beautiful in the city. What started out as a beautiful day became a rainy one and I wasn’t sure if my plan would still work. We went to Dumbarton Oaks Park in Georgetown, D.C. (ranked 6th in the world by National Geographic). We got there shortly after the rain thankfully stopped and because of it the park entry was free. Additionally, essentially nobody was there but us making the moment even more special and romantic. I took her to a section of the park that had stringed quartet music playing and I proceeded to tell her how much I loved her and never wanted to spend another day without her, got on one knee and asked if she could give me a late birthday present and make me the happiest man alive by being my wife. Rhea Whitney was hiding in the bushes and captured the entire proposal. The park doesn’t allow photo shoots but we were able to take advantage of the empty park and take some shots anyway.
Describe your engagement session. Did you have a theme?
We tried to use some of colors of the wedding, while our theme is a woodland fairy tale. So we wanted to capture something that appeared rustic and had a fall look to it. We trusted Rhea with her suggestion and loved our photos. The session itself went great. Rhea loves working with us as we have no issues expressing our emotions and showing our affection for one another. We had a few people compliment us during the process on our outfits and told us they just wanted to watch and hoped it wasn’t a problem, lol. The day got a little chilly but it was all worth it as we thought the outfits turned out perfect and complimented the scenery well. Rhea did an even better job with the photography.
What did you do on your first date?
Our first date was simple and cheap. We met at Ruby Tuesday one night after we got out of class. I can’t tell you what we ordered but I can tell you I was nervous because I was intoxicated when I met her at the party and thought for sure I ruined it before I began. However, we hit it off, had good conversation and I thought I could get a kiss but I was denied, lol. Definitely something I loved about her was how I had to work for every bit of love she gave me and made it that much greater.
What’s your favorite thing to do as a couple?
We are pretty simple but common things we love to do together is eat crabs, cook, go to or watch movies, documentaries, and TV series and travel to tropical/exotic islands.
How has wedding planning been so far?
It’s both fun and stressful. It’s mainly stressful with trying to make our guest list and finalize details. Obviously our family wants to have an input and it can be difficult when we disagree or tell them to remember it is about us and not them. However, I think Davitta is doing an awesome job and our special day will be magnificent and beautiful!
Tell us what you’re looking forward to most on your wedding day.
I am looking forward to most of all seeing her coming down the aisle and making our marriage official. After that we look forward to seeing how our romantic vision comes to life through all the details and of course partying with friends and family creating new memories.
