When you become a member of one of the Divine 9 Greek organizations, you gain brothers and sisters for life; for Taurean and Eden they found love. After Eden joined Alpha Kappa Alpha, her line sister introduced her to a dashing man from Alpha Phi Alpha whom she had grown up with. They stayed in contact via social media and when he came to town they decided to meet for lunch, henceforth they talked and saw each other as much as possible. Four years later, Taurean planned a quiet proposal at her apartment, he said, “I’m tired of being introduced as your boyfriend, I feel like I’m much more!” She did not think he meant anything of it until he got down on one knee and asked her to be his wife. They headed to the groom-to-be’s alma mater, North Carolina State University and downtown Raleigh, to do their playful and romantic engagement session with ArtbyAsh Photography. We look forward to seeing what their planner Veronica Foster has in store for their wedding at the end of July!
How They Met
Taurean grew up in Kinston, a small town in Eastern, NC. Kinston is the kind of place where everybody knows everybody. When I crossed AKA at Elon University, I gained a line sister who happened to grow up with Taurean. We crossed paths during our collegiate careers due to membership in Alpha Phi Alpha and Alpha Kappa Alpha, yet we continue debate about where and when. In September 2009, Taurean contacted me one day via social media just to catch up. We must have talked four or five hours that first night, and even longer the following several nights. A few days later Taurean had to be in Greensboro for a conference, so we decided to meet for lunch. Taurean says it was the best lunch he ever ate, and from that day, we knew we had something special. After that day, the conversations and dates never stopped.
The Proposal
Taurean proposed to me on April 27, 2013, after we attended a music gala at Elon University. When we returned to my apartment, unexpectedly, Taurean blurted out, “I’m tired of being introduced as your boyfriend, I feel like I’m much more!” I assumed that Taurean was a little cranky and tired from being introduced to so many new people that night. With a shocked and somewhat annoyed look, I responded, “Yes you are, but how else can you be introduced?” This is when Taurean got down one knee, pulled the ring out, and asked me to spend forever with him. I happily accepted and we shared tears and embraces. Later, I found out that my parents, sister, and close friends had all been in on the scheme, and had known about the proposal for weeks! That night Taurean and I went over to my parent’s house, and the whole family embraced them with love.
The Engagement Session
Since we are getting married at my alma mater, Elon University, we decided to make Taurean’s experience the backdrop for our engagement session. We shot at Taurean’s alma mater, NC State University, and in downtown Raleigh. While it felt a little awkward at first, our photographer, Ashley Green, was amazing in making us feel comfortable, and bringing out real emotions to be photographed. In all, the entire day felt like a great date that we were lucky to also be able to capture pictures of.
Favorite Thing to do as a Couple
We most enjoy our time hanging out when it is just the two of us. While we enjoy spending time with friends, there is nothing better than snuggling up at home to watch a good comedy, or our favorite TV show. Also, we both consider ourselves foodies, and love to try out new restaurants regularly.
Looking Forward to the Wedding
With our wedding day approaching, we look forward to sharing our love with close family and friends, and getting down on the dance floor! We are excited about our new life, and starting our own family in the future. We plan to live, laugh, and grow every day together, and will continue to let love be the glue to our relationship.
