Upstate New York was the perfect outdoor, winter setting for this couple’s romantic, snow filled engagement photoshoot.
When most people think of upstate New York in winter, the first thing that comes to mind is snow. However, there wasn’t a single flurry insight. Because of Covid-19 restrictions and the grooms’ work schedule, the previously planned session pivoted from Augusta, Georgia to Buffalo, New York where he lives. Fortunately for the couple, they found their snow-filled winter wonderland an hour outside of the city that gave them the engagement shoot of their dreams.
The couple’s amazing engagement story began at Niagara Falls in New York state. How did you meet?
We actually went to high school together, never dated in high school but knew each other casually. Jamie reached out to me via social media while working at a school in Virginia and Porcsha was in her Junior year of college.
Tell us your proposal story
“Well, this is what I thought was happening, we arrived at the Falls and I was ready to get in line for tickets for the boat tour, however Jamie insisted on walking to a different area of the falls that he said had better views. Well after 10 minutes of walking on the hottest day in Buffalo I began asking how much longer every other minute,”Porcsha explained. During their walk, Jamie kept cheerfully repeating to Porcsha that it was such a beautiful day and after a few more times he told her what was really happening. “He then goes take off your mask to which my response is no, we all know COVID is real, he then says it’s a beautiful day and and in my head I’m like yes he is really excited about this sun, he then says it’s an even more beautiful day to ask you if you will spend the rest of your life with me and I’m like wait what? are you serious? is this happening?… he’s on one knee and I’m in extreme shock. I said nothing and he looked at me super nervous, I was still in shock and I finally looked in his eyes and said yes. Some of our friends in the city jumped out, my best friend who also happens to live in buffalo and her husband jump out and then my bestie since 4th grade who lives in North Carolina came around the corner and I was floored.”
“I am pretty sure I spoke only 10 words for at least 30 minutes because I was so overwhelmed. One very cute note, as we headed back to the car he says look at the name of this area of the falls, it was the Bridal Veil Falls (the waterfall looks like a ‘Bridal Veil’ and thus the name Bridal Veil Falls) a little icing on the day.”
How did you know they were the one?
I think we’ve both known for years. Our journey was a unique one as we both had very specific career and educational goals which took us different places, but never the same place. Somehow some way our hearts always found their way back together and we worked through the distance.
What did you do on your first date?
Zaxby’s! It was a lunch date and I was slightly obsessed with Zaxby’s at the time. Jamie was in town for the holidays and asked me out to lunch. I still remember him coming to pick me up and us talking forever at lunch.
What is your favorite thing to do as a couple?
Eat and workout.
How has wedding planning been so far?
It’s an interesting time to plan a wedding because of Covid. I am super organized and particular when it comes to planning things so I knew I wanted to plan my wedding and bring in a planner for the day, about two months out from the wedding. With Covid it’s definitely added a layer for me to think through as we finalize the wedding.
What are you looking forward to most on the wedding day?
EVERYTHING! Honestly, I absolutely love all of the vendors we’ve booked to date and I haven’t seen my friends or family in sooo long, so we are looking forward to that, sharing our love and celebrating our love with the ones that we love most.
