Porshae & Talore were brought together by fate in 2008. They instantly became friends but it was difficult for them to stay in touch while Talore was attending school in Virginia and Porshae went back to Massachusetts. However, in 2013, one late night phone call changed their lives forever. They realized distance is no match for the love they share for each other.

Tell us about how you met and all about the proposal. We first met in Baltimore in 2008. Porshae transferred briefly to a new school and we met through a close friend. The universe has a funny way of bringing people in and out your life that way. We became instant friends, but between me going to school in Virginia and her returning to Massachusetts, we ultimately fell out of touch. We used social media to keep in touch even during those extended periods. Finally it was a midnight phone call in 2013 that sealed our fate. Porshae was back in school in Massachusetts for good and I transferred back to Maryland. It was long distance but this time we never stopped communicating. The universe did it all really.
The proposal started off as a surprise trip to Europe. We went to London first, then Paris, and lastly Amsterdam. I was surprised with a group of my closest friends at the airport who were going on the trip as well. The proposal happened in Paris, France. It was at the Bir Hakeim Bridge where my now, Fiance’s favorite artist Janet Jackson shot her Come Back to Me video. It had the most beautiful view of the Eiffel Tower! I was also surprised with an engagement photo shoot by our lovely photographer after the question was popped and of course I said Yes! Some other highlights were that Porshae had gotten all my measurements before we left to have a dress made for me that was waiting at our hotel upon our arrival. Needless to say it was a moment I will never forget!
What did you do on your first date? We were both still in school living on college student budgets. Since we were in different states, I took a bus to Massachusetts. This was the first time we had seen each other in 5 years, so we did not sleep. Just stayed awake all night for two days listening to music, talking, watching TV, two love crazed zombies. Our first meal together was a very elaborate dorm kitchen prepared meal. It was salmon and salad which, even though it might not sound elaborate to anyone else, we cooked together.
What’s your favorite thing to do as a couple? We love love to eat! This comes as no surprise because we are both extreme foodies. Some of our best moments have been because of our food experience, whether it be a festival we went to or restaurants that we have tried on vacation. Our love for quality and wonderful food has definitely been a major connection for us.
How has wedding planning been so far? We are both very meticulous and organized so planning so far in advance is a must for us. The process so far has been fun but also nerve-wracking because there is only so much you can do this far out. We have a google doc with all potential vendors and also a wedding organizer to make sure we are tracking everything.
Tell us what you’re looking forward to most on the wedding day. The Food! Honestly, we are looking forward to everything. For each of us, being in a same gender relationship has presented various challenges from personal acceptance to allowing those around us access to our safe space. For us its important to show everyone what this looks like. We are excited to bring friends and family into our world, see the love we have for each other, and celebrate with us. That will truly be the best part.
