When thinking of how Mesha and Damon made it to the altar it’s the “you’ve got mail” kind of love story you only see in movies. The couple met in a Yahoo group chat exclusively for college students. Damon was attending the University of North Texas, while Mesha was pursuing a degree at Sam Houston State University. After realizing that they had many things in common they continued talking via Yahoo messenger for several weeks. They exchanged email addresses after Yahoo messaging lost its luster but lost touch shortly after. A few months later Mesha received an email from Damon looking to reconnect. In between classes they’d send emails to one another developing the love that would lead them to say “I do.”
Coterie member Renee’s Eventi planned the beautiful Mexican destination wedding. Coordinator, Lakisha, describes the wedding as a gorgeous and lush destination beach wedding. “With the beautiful Cancun Riviera blue water as their back drop, Mesha and Damon exchanged loving vows to each other. The 4-day celebration, with approximately 60 guests, was full of love, laughter and fun!” Lakisha shares. Take a look at their photos by Adventure Photos Mexico.

Tell us all about the proposal!
On September 7 Damon told Mesha to clear her scheduled to celebrate a successful and stressful summer. Before heading out for their 7pm reservation Damon asked Mesha to check her email. After a weird glance, she complied. She found an email titled “I am very proud of you.” Attached was a letter that ended with the sentence “Come to the back room!!!” There, Mesha found Damon on his knees with a black velvet box containing an emerald cut halo diamond ring. They called and shared the news with their parents. To Mesha’s surprise her parents were already in the know because Damon called them in advance to request their blessing.
What I loved most about Damon’s proposal was how he did it. It was so us! I remember the long emails we’d send back and forth in college. I mean some of them could easily be considered a dissertation LOL. Reading his emails were the highlight of my day and it really gave us a chance to get to know each other on a deeper level. I personally think that’s why Damon and I are such great friends. We feel in love with each other mentally, in addition to physically -Mesha
What was your wedding dress style and how was your shopping experience?
My dress was 100% me! It’s chic, a touch of modern and traditional, simple but classy. I selected a day and was determined to find my dress on that day. We had three shops lined up – all in one day. My family lives out of town so that added a little pressure. I really wanted to my mom there when I found THE dress. With me was my mom, mother-in-law, niece, two of my bridesmaids and my wedding coordinator (who’s also a good friend). Shop 1 – I tried on about 6-7 dresses. There was one that stood out for me, but for whatever reason I didn’t purchase it. Shop 2 – I tried on about 3-4 dresses and actually cried with one. Of course we purchased that one. Clearly tears can be deceiving because by 10 pm that night I was panicking because in my heart of hearts I knew I had purchased the wrong dress. By midnight I emailed the shop and on Monday begged for my deposit back and pretty much told my fiancé that deposit back or not I was not walking down the aisle in that dress. He was so tired of me crying about it and agreed. Long story short they gave me the deposit back. By Tuesday I went back to shop 1 and got THE dress. The one that stood out to me. The one that had my name on it. The one that was twice as much as the other dress but I didn’t care because it was THE dress. My dress was a fit and flare sweetheart neckline, ivory corset with an array of soft tulle at the bottom (I called it organized chaos which totally matches my personality) that had soft crystals in it. I added a Swarovski crystal sash to the dress. I hated the idea of a veil, but my hubby really wanted it. So the compromise was a birdcage with accent crystals to compliment my sash. What are some of your favorite memories of your wedding day?
The best memories were walking down the steps seeing the ceremony set-up (which was exactly what I wanted) and then seeing the smile and anticipation on my husband’s face. He looked like a man that was ready to get married. He didn’t have the nervous scared look, but rather confident and ready to get this thing going. I thought I’d have to remind myself to smile because I’d be nervous. I didn’t. If anything I had to remind myself to calm down and not show ALL my pearly whites! What advice do you have for our brides-to-be?
Destination. Destination. Destination. The best decision ever. Here’s the thing though, just because its destination doesn’t necessarily mean it will be cheaper. For me, the design was very important. While I wanted the exotic location and intimate feel, I also wanted the day to feel like a traditional wedding and that came at a price. I’d also tell you to remember to enjoy the journey and the wedding. I feel bad for brides that are all stressed out before the wedding and even more so on their wedding day. I was determined to enjoy my day. Lastly, and here’s the biggie; hire, at the very least, a month of coordinator. While I really wanted to plan my own wedding, I knew that I wanted to enjoy the day and have someone I trust advise me throughout the journey. I wanted someone who was there 100% for me and to make sure that every detail was carried out. So we paid for our coordinator to come with us. The best gift we could have ever given ourselves. She was absolutely amazing. It’s because of her that I felt like a bride from the time we got to Mexico until we left for our honeymoon. I honestly can’t say enough about her.
