The world of sports is chock-full of amazing lessons for marriage and relationships. There’s emphasis on unity, solidarity and team work; commitment and effort; and deep, unbridled, emotional passion. So, it’s no wonder Stephanie and Kenneth first made their connection as team players on the softball field. As they got to know each other, the relationship progressed from a casual acquaintance to a full-on unbridled and committed romance. [Keep an eye out for the groom’s original and heartfelt New Year’s Eve proposal.] Their commitment was irrevocably sealed on their wedding day, which was photographed by Melinda Le Photography.

Getting to Know You ….. “We met, of all places, on the softball field. I had missed the first game and he was new to the team. Over a period of time, he struck up some conversation with me and it all started from there. Though there was 11 days of radio silence, when the conversation became more frequent, we got to the point that we are now.”
How He Proposed ….. “It began as a day of reflection. I had just finished a wedding the night before and, that day, I reflected on how my year had changed so dramatically, and how blessed I was to have such a wonderful man in my life.
Kenneth went outside the box and hand-wrote 7 notes to me, which he gave me throughout the day. All had sentimental value and showed me how much he paid attention and how much he cared. On the outside of each envelope, it said, “What are you doing on New Year’s Eve?”
Note 1 – Amazing; Lyrics from Luther Vandross
Note 2 – Notable quotables – quotes that we said to each other or people said to us
Note 3 – Numbers – Kenneth is a numbers person and kept track of memorable dates or significant numbers
Note 4 – At First – lyrics from Sam Cooke “You Send Me”
Note 5 – Blue – The significance of Sapphire. Ultimately writing, “This IS the sapphire that you chose.” But when I read it he said I read it wrong. Only after rereading it 3 times, did he push the table aside and say, “No, THIS is the sapphire that you chose. Will you marry me?”
Note 6 – Yes – lyrics from Musiq
What are you doing on New Year’s Day? Note 7 – My Joy, My Heaven
It was well thought out and highly memorable. We later went to dinner with our friends Chuck and Celessa and celebrated the new year and new journey at The Claremont’s New Year’s Eve party.”
Creating New Traditions ….. “We incorporated spices, since we both like to cook, instead of the unity candle or sand. We did 7 spices and had my bridesmaid read a “Recipe for a Successful Marriage.” The 7 spices represented parents (2), friends (2), family (2) and us (1). We created our own tradition, which was enjoyed by everyone.”
An Unforgettable Moment ….. “After one of my husband’s best men gave a speech and began to sing, he handed the mic to my husband who then serenaded me. I was awestruck. It was such a wonderful surprise and I felt truly blessed that he would do this for me. It was so magical and the best memory. It was so unexpected.”

I have not stopped smiling since meeting you and your family for the first time, up to the day of your wedding. A pleasure and an honor then and always to be your flower girl-lady. Continued blessings and love to you two, K.
