All those high school movies might just be on to something: maybe cheerleaders and varsity sports players do belong together. Just maybe! At least, when it comes to this former cheerleader-varsity football team (no pun intended), they definitely do. Now, Tyeema will be cheering for Gerik for the rest of her life and Gerik’s greatest touchdowns will be where he belongs: right in his wife’s heart.

Bride’s Name: Tyeema Witt Groom’s Name: Gerik Witt Date of Wedding: October 8, 2011 Ceremony: McKendree United Methodist Church Reception: Eleven 15 Events, Lawrenceville, Georgia Photographed by Taun Henderson PhotographyThe Meeting … “We met in high school. Gerik played varsity football for Southwest Dekalb and Tyeema was a cheerleader. Although we never dated in high school we both were attracted to each other. After we graduated and left for college, we remained good friends. It wasn’t until many years later, right before Tyeema’s 10-Year Class Reunion, that we reunited at a pre-event. Gerik asked for Tyeema’s new number to setup a lunch date. Lunch turned into another date which was over dinner and Gerik’s actual birthday. We both shared our first kiss and that became the spark that is now forever burning.”
The Proposal …“Gerik proposed by taking me to this really nice restaurant at the Hilton Hotel called Seagar’s. We were seated in a very secluded private dining area which was actually a winery room. Everyone came to tell me happy birthday all the way from the Top Chef and the Guest Services Manager. It was truly a wonderful birthday dinner. I ordered steak and lobster tails as my main entrée and Gerik ordered (for the first time) Alaskan King Crab Legs. The food was impeccable. So delicious that we ate everything on our plates. Right after ordering dessert, I needed to go to the restroom because I got so carried away with the steak sauce that a little spilled on the side of my white outfit. I excused myself and told Gerik I would be right back. It took me longer than usual to return to the table and Gerik looked a bit uneasy because of the delay in our desserts. Finally, the dessert arrived and then Gerik took my hand. He began this long touching speech [saying] that he loves me and that he’s so happy and then I began to see his lips moving but didn’t hear anything else after that. All I saw was Gerik slide from his seat onto one knee pulling out a small little white box from his sock. I became real numb and thought I was dreaming. He opened the box and looked at me with watery eyes. I began to cry and shake my head, “Yes” as he put the ring on. At that time, I was so shocked and couldn’t believe what had just happened. I hugged him and cried on his shoulder telling him that I love him. That was the happiest and most memorable experience that I will never forget. What a great birthday; What a wonderful night, What a perfect proposal!!!”
The Theme & Inspiration … “[My] favorite color is purple. Since the wedding was planned for the fall season, we mixed it with chocalate brown and a touch of champagne for a well-rounded balance of color. I am a very detailed person, so being a bride I wanted everything elegant & detailed; from my dress all the way to the reception table setup. I hired a wonderful Event Planner Eliana from Elly B Events that had a great eye and could capture my vision to make my wedding even more fabulous. I wanted lots of “bling bling”, rich color, and most importantly I wanted my guests to really have lots of fun. I made sure we had a perfect DJ that could set the mood and get the dance floor rocking. Eleven 15 Events, where I had my reception, was just awesome by setting the ambiance and being very flexible with accommodating for my large guest count. They really made it easy for a bride to relax and enjoy her night. Also, the food there was incredible and everyone really enjoyed themselves.”
Important Elements … “We had a Christian yet carefree spirited wedding. Nothing was going to steal our joy. We made sure to have a ceremony in a church and our pastor, Kerwin B. Lee officiated in our marriage. We also incorporated our loved ones who we recently lost which was Gerik’s father and my late grandmother. We had their pictures in frames setup and placed by our unity candle. Since this was a joyous celebration, during our reception, we made sure everyone enjoyed the night and we danced all night long with our guests.”
The Most Unforgettable Moment … “The most memorable part of the wedding was during the ceremony, once the doors opened for me to walk down and seeing all the guests stand; it was watching Gerik look so happy watching me walk down the aisle to come to him. Feeling that love from everyone and seeing how emotional Gerik became was so touching.”
