Meet The Couple….
Bride: Sharonda Johnson Groom: Morris LeBlanc Bride’s Occupation: Doctoral Student, UNC Charlotte, Nanoscale Science PhD Program Groom’s Occupation: Release Engineer, Lash Group Date of Wedding: July 16, 2011 Wedding Location: Charlotte, NCThe Meeting… “[We] met while running track at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. We competed in the same events (jumps) so I got to see her just about every day. After getting to know that she was brains and beauty I decided that I would get to know her personally even though people told me I had to bring my ‘A’ game to get with her. I just knew that if I was myself I had a shot, so I playfully made conversations with her. Even though she played hard to get for a while, I was very persistent in my efforts. I knew I would see her all the time at practice and she had to notice me so after a while she finally gave me a chance and the rest speaks for itself.” -Morris
The Proposal…. “It was Sharonda’s 24th birthday and I decided to go home to Baton Rouge, LA to vacation so I brought her with me. Little did she know about five months beforehand I had asked her parents for her hand in marriage and they gave me their blessing, so I moved forward by purchasing a ring. So on her birthday which is July 9th, my sister, brother-in-law, Sharonda and I went out to eat at Primo’s Steakhouse to have dinner. Then we rode around downtown Baton Rouge and went to a place called Tsunami to have a few cocktails. The place overlooked the Mississippi River Bridge and it made for a beautiful setting to ask her to marry me. So, I pulled her to the side as we gazed at the bridge and I asked her if she was enjoying her night and of course she said yes. I then asked if she wanted to make it a lifetime. She looked at me laughing a little and said, “What are you talking about?” Then I asked if she would like to become Mrs. LeBlanc. She looked as if I was joking, then I showed her the ring and she began to cry a little and of course she said ‘yes.” – Morris
{Some Wedding Details}
The Planning Process … “As for me it was like anything else-a very tedious process. Lucky for us, we had a very good friend in Aisha Thomas that is a great wedding planner. She made sure that most of the challenges were taken away from us. I would say that hardest part was making the list of who to invite to the wedding and also deciding who would be a part of our bridal party.” -Morris
The Theme… “We wanted to keep our wedding party small to cut down on cost, so we only had 4 attendants each, 2 flower girls, and 2 ringbearers. The color scheme came from a conversation with Morris’ sister. My favorite color is sapphire blue, and we thought that yellow would be a nice compliment and a good color for a summer wedding. After talking with Aisha, we added in sage green as an accent color.
When we met with Aisha, we had some disconnected ideas about what we wanted. We wanted our day to be simple, yet elegant. It was also important to us that the food was good, and that our guests had a good time. Through a series of conversations, Aisha helped us complete our vision. We wanted a fusion of both of our cultures, being a Carolina girl and a Louisiana boy. Aisha helped us come up with subtle ways to add elements of both, without being too “themish.””
Vendor Selection…. “Aisha referred several of our vendors (video, cake, catering). Other vendors were people that we knew or heard about from another friend. We were very fortunate to secure high quality vendors for reasonable prices, so we saved in every aspect of our wedding. The invitations and programs were done by Morris’ sister, which also saved us a lot of money.”
THE Wedding Moment… “I would say when we were announced as Mr. and Mrs. Morris LeBlanc at the reception with the New Orleans Second Line song playing and how we marched in Mardi Gras style. It kept the feeling of how our families love to have a good time. To see everyone standing on their feet and dancing with us was just a sight I will never forget.” -Morris
“Walking down the aisle with my dad and seeing Morris at the altar. He started to cry when he saw me, and I did everything in my power to hold it together. I will never forget how I felt on that day: beautiful and loved.” -Sharonda
