Kahmilah and Joseph first crossed paths as undergraduates in college when she transferred in as the new girl on campus.
With Joseph being the roommate of Kahmilah’s brother, he already had “the inside scoop.” Even though the attraction between them was evident, upon arrival and throughout college, Kahmilah and Joseph remained close friends. After graduation, they would catch up over social media from time-to-time but lost touch for a few years, until a Facebook post by Kahmilah celebrating her acceptance into Veterinary school would reconnect them…

Though their time in each other’s lives had remained defined by a friendship cherished by both, Joseph didn’t want to let another opportunity pass without letting Kahmilah know the truth of his heart. Initially shocked by his declaration of love, Kahmilah was relieved and excited to realize that his feelings have always matched her own. With their mutual love for each other expressed, their powerful connection picked up right where it left off, and their relationship became official.
With both of them knowing they’d discovered a soulmate in the other, Joseph began searching for their perfect proposal opportunity. That opportunity presented itself in the form of a research trip to Belize. After a long day of explorations, Joseph asked Kahmilah to take a sunset walk with him. Sitting down along a river at the end of their path they talked about the highlights of their day while holding each other. As the last rays of sunlight disappeared they made their way back along the trail. Noticing that Joseph wasn’t walking beside, Kahmilah turned to find him on one knee, where he asked her to spend the rest of their lives together as husband and wife.
For Kahmilah, wedding shopping was a fun and sentimental experience, as she and her mother looked for the perfect dress. Immediately knowing the dress when she saw, Kahmilah said yes to an antique ivory ballroom gown with a beaded corset and cathedral train. Following their ceremony, the Bride, Groom, and their joined family honored their West African and Jamaican heritage by changing into traditional Kente attire. With flags in hand, the dance floor was alive with love and support as the newlyweds took their first steps together as a married couple.
