Anuoluwapo’s family had recently moved to South West of Lagos, Nigeria when Abel was visiting a family friend who, as fate would have it, was Anuoluwapo’s new neighbor.
Upon seeing Anuoluwapo, Abel was immediately struck by powerful feelings of deja vu, as if they had always known each other. Over time that natural connection continued to strengthen with every moment spent together. It soon became clear to them both that they were meant to be, and that nothing could come between them. How did you meet? One beautiful evening Abel was visiting a family friend when he met Anuoluwapo. Anuoluwapo’s family recently moved to South West of Lagos, Nigeria. They were visiting their new neighbors in that neighborhood when Abel walked in at the same time. In Abel’s words, “I knew there was something about her when she walked past me, it felt like Deja Vu, as though we had met somewhere or in a previous life before.” Anu and Abel got acquainted, and that’s was how it all began ten years ago. As time went by, they both became increasingly aware that nothing could come in between them.
Tell us about the proposal. My fiancé Abel had planned a special event with my sisters Victoria and Yetunde. They made me believe there is a birthday party we were attending but to my surprise, I walked in and Abel went down on his knee.
Describe your wedding attire. Our wedding style is a mix of action and adventure with a touch of royalty. The dress was custom made by Michigan, a very talented dressmaker, while Abel’s tux was custom made by Seyi Mark.
Did you incorporate any culture into your wedding? Our wedding was a fusion of two tribes in Nigeria; Abel is Delta while Anuoluwapo is Yoruba. That’s two esteemed cultures in Nigeria. We had to favor both cultures in many different ways, by changing outfits multiple times to incorporate both tribes and in our food selections.
Wedding Party Gifts: Groomsmen had a matching brochure, socks, mug. Bridesmaids had custom made picture pillow and jewelry set of hand bracelets and earrings.
Gifts for Each Other: Christian Louboutin shoes and bag and a Rolex watch set with a ring.
Ceremony Entrance Songs. We had a religious ceremony however for our reception entrance we had a mix of top Nigerian hits.
First Dance Song: “You Are The Reason” by Calum Scott, and “Iyawo Mi” by Timi Dakolo
What is your best memory from your wedding? Our wedding was a dream come true, there is a lot to remember from the two years of planning. Our most cherished memory will be the decor by Dream-Party Decor, the custom made outfits, food, and overall dance experience.
What is the best wedding advice you can give to engaged couples? Our advice is to plan ahead of time, save money as some unexpected details might creep up at your wedding. Good food is very important. Get multiple videographers and photographers just in case one decides to act unprofessionally.
