Hosted by The Ruby Manor in Brampton, Ontario Canada, Ijenna Ndukwe of LILAC Floral Design and her team of diverse creatives brought this elegant and elevated-styled shoot to life!
Blooming with intricate florals, elegant table decor, and endless bridal inspiration, this sophisticated styled shoot was centered around the Spring/Summer 2023 Wedding Dress Collection curated by Melissa Williams of Luxe Collection Bridal. Melissa’s beautiful designs are size inclusive and offer the deepest mesh skin tones available. The men looked equally handsome in Michael Smith’s Demarquez-vous custom suits.
In keeping with their theme, “the elegance of diversity,” their vendor team showcases some of Toronto’s newest Black-Owned, Black Ally, and Diverse wedding vendors. For instance, Ijenna’s LILAC Floral Design team is one of the few Black-owned floral companies in the Greater Toronto Area. She is also a proud member of the Black Girl Florist Association based in Atlanta, Georgia.
In addition to their wide-ranging vendor team, the shoot was extra special with its use of models – including two real-life couples! With various skin tones, hair textures, and body types, each model is uniquely themselves and beautiful in their own way. Behind the lens, Carly Frohlich Photography and McKie Rich Productions captured every beautiful detail.

Theme…
The theme allowed us to highlight a mix of models from all different walks of life – various skin tones, hair textures, facial features, body types, etc – all donning Melissa’s beautiful dresses and the guys in Michael Smith’s Demarquez- Vous custom suits and accessories. The vendors on the shoot were a mix of established local brands with some other up and coming start-ups and their associated teams.
Concept…
The concept, direction, and florals were created by our company, LILAC Floral Design. We are one of the few Black-owned floral companies in the GTA and a proud member of the Black Girl Florist Association based in Atlanta, Georgia. We specialize in high-end floral design for smaller scale events.
Table setting & decor…
For the tablescapes, we went with two different styles of centerpieces in the same taupe and a blush palette. The first one was a traditional layout with olive green fishbowl vases for a pop of colour and small centerpieces with bone colour plating.
Gold table settings were provided by popular Toronto event rentals favourite, Nayos. Taupe candle settings, a beige gauze table runner, sage napkin linens, and deep green and beige menu stationery from Polkadot Paper Shop tied everything together.
Dreaming in pink…
The second tablescape look was another mix of the meadow style florals with larger scale heavy foliage-based centerpieces flanked with ruscus and vine. This look incorporated soft neutral menu cards with pink tones from the Nayos new glassware collection and soft blush pink napkin linens. The table settings included white scalloped china and clear chargers that matched the clear chiavari chairs and tables supplied by Mosaic Rentals.
The floral design was a menu of different styles inspired by the Luxebridal Collection and the corresponding accessories provided by Olaeda Fine Jewellery – a veteran in the wedding accessory game.
Looks and decor ranged from a simple whimsical grounded meadow floral installation, light and airy fresh floral bouquet designs with white orchids, nude & toffee roses as well as fine foliage and garden style filler.
Bridal Fashion…
The wedding dresses were curated by an up-and-coming designer, Melissa Williams of Luxe Collection Bridal (as seen on Cityline). Her company is Black-owned and prides itself on inclusive sizes and the deepest mesh skin tones available.
