Edgy engagement session balances “ride or die” leather jackets and motorcycles with romantic pastels and bright colors in two distinct styled scenes.
Engagement sessions don’t have to be traditional or quote on quote “boring.” They’re actually a great opportunity for couples to showcase their personalities and share their love for one another with friends and family.
For Kanika and Joe, they didn’t shy away from incorporating both edgy and soft vibes into their engagement photos. Captured by Candice Williams of She believed Photography, the pair brought out their soft and sexy sides in two distinctly different scenes. Playing with bright, happy colors for their first looks, they threw in all-black biker attire and posed in front of Joe’s soft-tail motorcycle for the second. The result is an edgy meets romantic engagement session that effortlessly exudes their love for one another. We can only hope to find our own ride or die life-partner to ride off into the sunset with!

How they met…
Kanika and Joe met online, via Bumble. In 2018, Kanika recently relocated from Miami to the Charlotte metropolitan area. Joe was currently in law school. Initially, their relationship started out as a friendship. Almost a year later, it grew into a romantic relationship.
Their first date…
We met for lunch at a Sushi restaurant in Uptown Charlotte.
The proposal…
Initially, Joe wanted Kanika’s friends and family to come up from her hometown of Miami, Florida to be a part of their special day in Rock Hill, South Carolina. Unfortunately, one of Kanika’s close girlfriends revealed Joe’s plans over lunch, ruining the surprise. Joe in turn had to rearrange plans last minute to prevent her family from booking their flight. It was back to the drawing board.
The following weekend, Joe asked Kanika to get ready for a fancy dinner. In route to this “dinner,” his sister called. She and her boyfriend were taking couple’s photos at the park and Joes ex-classmate, who happened to be the photographer, requested to see him. Of course, this was all part of the plan.
Upon arrival, he asked Joe if he wanted to take pictures. Kanika reluctantly said yes. After a few snaps, Joe went down on one knee and popped the question!
Engagement session & theme…
We decided to do our photos in Uptown, Charlotte. Bright and joyful was the theme. We wanted to incorporate Joe’s motorcycle, so we also went for a biker look. We decided to go for the biker all-black look for those scenes.
Favorite thing to do as a couple…
We love to cook together, travel, exercise and watch professional sports.
Wedding planning so far…
Joyous, exciting, and stressful all bundled in ONE. We decided to have two ceremonies to incorporate both of our families. Joe, being from Rock Hill, South Carolina, and I, a first-generation Jamaican American, decided to choose two places that are special to us. So we will be saying “I do” in our first wedding in Rock Hill, South Carolina on October 15 and then celebrating again in Ocho Rios, Jamaica, on October 29.
What they’re looking forward to most on their wedding day…
Being with close family and friends as they support us in the new Chapter of life.
