Genise and Rico are enjoying taking their time planning their spring 2016 nuptials which is set to take place in beautiful Columbia, South Carolina. The couple chose to capture the moment for their engagement session at dusk since night is when the two first met. Opting to take photographs early due to completing graduate school and military commitments, Genise and Rico headed to Five Points and Downtown in Columbia, SC for their romantic night.
Wedding Date: May 21, 2016

Tell us about how you met and all about the proposal!
One night, Genise reached out to a friend in Spartanburg and along with two sorority sisters, the ladies decided to take a road trip to a friend’s party. Meanwhile, Rico was on his way to Charlotte and decided to take a detour. Genise and Rico both ended up at that mutual friend’s house.
Trying to be a matchmaker, their mutual friend “forced” Genise to ride with Rico to the party. They danced all night, ate afterwards and never stopped communicating. Genise was in her last semester of undergrad and Rico was working in Greenville. The two traveled to see one another any chance that they could get and have been inseparable since.
Rico was nervous as ever during the proposal. The two were home getting ready for a casual dinner date so she went in the closet to grab her jacket to leave. When she turned around, there he was with the ring. She ran back in the closet, shocked and excited. Nervousness overcame her as she came back out. He asked to make her happy forever and of course she said, “Yes!”
The engagement session…
Since we met at night and my fiancé loves putting on a suit, we decided that we would want to commemorate this moment in our lives in a very classy and elegant way. Our wedding is going to be a very classy affair, so we wanted our pictures to reflect that.
What did you do on your first date?
Rico lived in Greenville and there isn’t a Joe’s Crab Shack in Columbia but that’s where I wanted to go. So we went to the movies and then ate at Joe’s. I love seafood and Rico would do just about anything I ask to keep my attention, still to this day. I’m still trying to figure out how I managed to get him to take me to the Bahamas in the 1st few months of dating.
What’s your favorite thing to do as a couple?
We love to travel, workout, and eat at the same great restaurants over and over again!
How has wedding planning been so far?
Wedding planning so far is a blast. Since we have been engaged since December and we are not getting married until next May, it gives us plenty of time to save money and have fun with it. It has definitely been a stress free process. I shop around for everything that is suitable for my needs.
Tell us what you’re looking forward to most on the wedding day.
Everything! I have literally been excited since I met Rico. I am excited knowing that I can make the declaration before God, saying that this is the man I will spend the rest of my night with. I’m happy to be able to share that moment with my friends and family in a memorable way.
