Romantic fairytale beach wedding in Phuket, Thailand, celebrates culture, love, and family.
Elena and Peter’s love story begins as many rom-coms do: as friends (and competitive co-workers!). However, after striking up an undeniable friendship, soon their “strictly professional” relationship evolved into something much more special!
Elena admits: “The best part of our story is that I got to marry my best friend. Peter wasn’t my husband who BECAME my best friend. He was my best friend who BECAME my husband and that foundation has been the best one we could ever ask for.”

How they met…
Peter and Elena first met at work. While they had an undeniable chemistry and were instant friends, they were determined to be professional. They were even competing for the same job! So, they avoided a relationship. However, outside of the office their friendship grew and they quickly became best friends.
As their friendship blossomed (even giving one another dating advice!) they found they were pretty protective of one another. Elena “turned her nose up at any person Peter would mention and Peter couldn’t even hear about any of Elena’s dates.”
It started with a kiss…
Finally, one night over dinner, everything changed when Peter randomly kissed Elena. With their friendship clearly surpassed by their budding romance, they decided to keep their relationship private until the end of their work competition.
When their project was finally complete, they finally told their friends and coworkers. But, little did they know, their friends and coworkers already knew! They all knew “there was an undeniable connection that was visible to anyone with eyes.”
Wedding Style…
Elena describes their special day as a “romantic fairytale pastel beach wedding with a characteristic touch of Burgundy color.”
Elephants were also a significant symbol throughout their wedding decor. They hoped the majestic creatures would forever remind their guests of their time in Thailand.
The ceremony…
Culture…
For Elena and Peter, it was very important to incorporate culture into their wedding.
They actually chose Phuket for their Destination Wedding “because Peter’s family is originally from Thailand.” Having a beach wedding was also always one of their dreams.
Their friends and relatives from the United States also”loved the idea of attending a destination wedding and having a holiday in Phuket at the same time!” So, it all worked out!
To further tie in Peter’s culture, at the end of their western ceremony they featured the traditional “water blessing ritual.”
Elena reflects on the special moment fondly, stating: “Peter’s family was the first to bless us, followed by my parents, and all the other guests really enjoyed participat[ing] in this traditional ritual.”
Mr. & Mrs. Sing…
The reception…
Best memory from their wedding…
Their favorite memory of the day was their reception and the final fireworks.
“Both were magical, look at the pictures!”
Advice for other engaged couples…
Elena’s advice for couples planning their own special day (particularly for destination weddings) is to find a great wedding planner! Also, while a standard hotel destination wedding might seem like the easier route, it’s not something Elena would ever recommend because you won’t get a customized experience.
Their dream wedding wouldn’t have been possible without the creative planning of their destination wedding planner, Ilaire, and her Wedding Boutique Phuket team. From finding inspiration and creating a theme on Pinterest to their wedding day, WBP “delivered exactly what [they] imagined!”
Elena adds: “I’m so grateful that we found Wedding Boutique Phuket! I recently saw a wedding in a magazine, and I swore it looked like mine. To say that I had my dream wedding would be an understatement. If you’re thinking about working with WBP, you would be making the right decision. Check out our page on her site! Peter and Elena, and if you have any questions, please feel free to message me. I would love to tell you about how she seamlessly planned our wedding even when it changed from 60 guests to 100 guests (at the last minute) or how it RAINED on my wedding day and she was so prepared that we didn’t even notice. Best wedding day decision, aside from the hubby I chose, of course!”
