How did you meet?
On 11/11/19, Kennisha and Shakir would lock eyes for the first time at a birthday party they were both attending. As Shakir watched Kennisha perform and maneuver through the party, he noticed a glow surrounding her that led him to ask a mutual friend about Kennisha. Once the message was relayed, they met. Although they had a great conversation, they wouldn’t get to go on their first date until two months later.
When they finally did on 1/13/2020, the flame was lit and their love story began instantly. They went on their second date five days later and haven’t separated since. By week three, Shakir and Kennisha were introducing one another to members of one another’s families, going to church together, meeting each other’s friends, all while falling deeper in love by the moment. On 2/14/2020 Shakir asked Kennisha to be his girlfriend and then soon after, the pandemic hit. Now, at such a critical time in the world, some people would be expected to fall apart but Kennisha and Shakir bonded together in communication, trust, love, and most importantly God.
Tell us about the proposal
On New Years Day 2021 in Montego Bay, Jamaica the couple was vacationing on a Friendy Moon celebrating the marriage of the couple who introduced them. As Shakir and Kennisha walked to dinner one night, he grabbed her hand and began speaking to her about how much he loved her. Shakir led her to the beach where they were met with the most beautiful sunset, eleven friends and family members, and a trail of rose petals overlooking the beach. As soon as Kennisha saw her now mother-in-law, the tears began to flow and she fell into Shakir’s arms. Shakir took Kennisha onto the stage where he professed his God-centered intentional love for her and asked her to be his wife!
Wedding Style
Shakir wore a custom tux with personalized details and gold accents. Kennisha wore a glamorous princess ball gown with lots of glitz and sparkles. The wedding dress shopping process was amazing! Kennisha tried on almost twenty dresses and ended up purchasing the first dress she tried on.
Culture
Shakir is originally from Kingston, Jamaica so the DJ was Jamaican and we had island tunes sprinkled throughout the evening.
