Many people do not go into lounges thinking they are going to find the love of their life, but sometimes Cupid shows up in unexpected places. When Porscha saw Derrick walk into the lounge she had been partying at, she was intrigued. When Derrick approached her and offered to buy her a drink, she was mesmerized by his smell. Little did they know Cupid was waiting in the wings, and their initial attraction would quickly turn into a lasting love. They had a whirlwind romance, getting engaged after five months of dating. When it came to wedding planning, they had a specific vision for their big day, but had no clue how to make it happen. So they enlisted the help of Monica of Nouveau Events to make their theme of “Romantic Elegance” with a plum and silver color scheme come true.

How They Met
The way Derrick and I met was very ironic. We both were at different parties and we ended up leaving them because the parties horrible. I remember walking into the lounge. Derrick soon approached me and asked if I wanted a drink. While we were talking, all I remember thinking was how amazing he smelled. Later we exchanged phone numbers and the rest is history!
The Proposal
We dated for five months before he proposed over a romantic dinner. He was so nervous that he put the ring on the wrong finger. This made everyone laugh, but it was all so very sweet!
Wedding Description
Derrick and I had a very specific vision for our wedding, but we had no clue as to how to make it happen. We found images of the style and decor that we loved and that was the hardest part. We made the decision to hire Monica, with Nouveau Events to plan our entire event. From that point on, the planning process was extremely easy for me because she did a wonderful job! She took our images and conversations and brought them to life. The theme our our wedding was “Romantic Elegance” and our wedding colors were plum and silver. If it wasn’t for my wedding planner I’m pretty sure I would of have a meltdown.
Wedding Style
For my wedding day, I wanted a wedding dress that was dramatic, elegant, and made me look my best. Initially, I wanted a custom made gown based on a style of dress that I wanted but could not find. That was a very difficult process and I ended up deciding to shop for a wedding dress. With only a short time before the wedding, I stumbled upon my dream wedding dress. As soon as I saw it, I was in love! My wedding dress is from the Forever Yours 2013 Bridal Collection. It is an ivory strapless organza and net gown with sweetheart neckline, pleated bodice and hand cut bias layered skirt accented with a sparkle belt. My wedding style advice for brides-to-be is to not get caught up in having the exact dress from the bridal magazine. Be open to dress styles as you may find one that is not what you initially envisioned, but makes you look amazing!
Incorporation of Culture
Derrick is from the island of Jamaica. For this reason, we decided to incorporate the Jamaican Flag into our Signature Cocktail. It was named the “Bob Marley” as a tribute to Jamaican music and heritage. It was a three-tiered cocktail made with Malibu Coconut Rum, strawberry daiquiri, pineapple juice, orange juice, pineapple juice, and Blue Curacao. Plus our guests danced the night away to contemporary music from the islands.
Most Memorable Moment
My wedding was absolutely amazing from beginning to end! Every moment and every detail was so memorable that I cannot pick just one! However if I have to pick one, it would be when I was being walked down the aisle by my brother and Derrick and I saw each other for the first time. That was a very special moment. Our wedding day was truly a memory I will never forget!
