Tejuana and Dale’s love didn’t quite happen at first sight.
The pair met in college through a mutual friend who thought that playing matchmaker to her two Jamaican friends would lead to an instant love connection. But the sparks didn’t fly so quickly. “It took a bit but we had an effortless chemistry and eventually built a solid friendship and became best friends” shares Tejuana. And the rest was history.
Considering the couple’s romance blossomed in Brooklyn, naturally Dale thought that the ideal place to propose would be on the Brooklyn Bridge pier while the iconic bridge illuminated in the backdrop. With a photographer in line to document the moment and the perfect disguise plan in place, Dale was ready to utter those four magic words. “Dale founded a menswear and interior design website and told me that he needed me to model in a Spring photo shoot. I was skeptical but I agreed to participate under the condition that I would have complete veto power over his publishing any photo where I was captured for his website” shares Tejuana. But in the end she wouldn’t need to veto a thing. Dale proposed to Tejuana at golden hour on the pier and following her “yes”, the couple immediately rushed to a celebratory dinner at The River Cafe.
This beautiful pair enlisted the help of an amazing coterie dream-team to execute their Rustic Romance nuptials, including J&R Photography, Yamean Studios, Juicy Looks Makeup Artistry, Victorious Events, and DJ MikeMusic! Gander on for more.

Describe your wedding dress! What was wedding shopping like for you?
The theme of our wedding was “Rustic Romance” so I wanted a dress that was romantic – but not too dreamy, as I favored more classy fitted silhouettes and I disliked all lace dresses. As a petite bride, this was a challenge as I found myself swimming in most wedding gowns, but soon enough I found the one. I went with a Marc Zunino gown from Kleinfeld Bridal. It was a beautiful, romantic ivory tulle gown but designed to fit like a glove. It gave me the classy, fitted silhouette look that I desired.
Did you incorporate any culture into your wedding?
We did. We are both Jamaican and it was important for us to include some piece of the island in our wedding. As favors, we had traditional Jamaican wedding cake and mini Appleton Rum.
Quick Facts:
Bridesmaids/Groomsmen gifts: Bridesmaids: Kate Spade bracelets Groomsmen: Bow ties and pocket squares from the Tie Bar along with Japanese whiskies (Hibiki 12 and Akashi) to sip on while getting ready.
Favorite item on the menu: The Groom’s favorite item: Almond Stuffed Dates that were wrapped in Bacon that were served during cocktail hour. | The Bride’s favorite item: Lobster and Scallop Chowder, which was the first course. The couple also note that the decision was truly difficult to make as everything on the menu was delicious!
First dance song: “Stay with You” by John Legend. This was very hard for us.
“We didn’t have a couple’s song and ended up deciding our first dance song 48 hours before the wedding. In the end we chose “Stay With You” by John Legend as we felt the words of that song were most representative of us” shares Tejuana
What is your best memory from your wedding?
My best memory is actually a feeling, the feeling of absolute happiness as I saw our family and friends gathered to share in our big day.
What is the best wedding advice you can give to engaged couples?
Pick your top 3-5 non-negotiable items and stand united as a couple in all aspects of the planning and decision making, it will only bring you closer together.
