When Sabrina was making her sales rounds, a day seemingly like any other, neither she nor Patrick would’ve ever believed that on the other side of the door stood their soulmate. Not wanting to let her slip through his fingers, Patrick turned up the charm, hoping to secure a first date. Reluctant at first, Sabrina also couldn’t ignore the immediate connection they shared and decided to follow her heart. A few dates later and they were on the path to happily ever after…

Tell us how you met and all about the proposal. Let’s just say love came knocking at my door. Sabrina was doing door to door sales with AT&T Uverse trying to sell me cable and internet services. I wasn’t interested in switching providers at the time, but was curious about her plans later that week. She had all my personal information and knew where I lived so I was eager to get hers as well. She was reluctant at first, but gave into my sales pitch at the end. After a couple of dates, things progressed really quickly. We were engaged about a year and a half after we met!
From the beginning of our relationship, I knew Sabrina wasn’t the ordinary girl. She always wanted to be different and didn’t want the same kind of ring that everyone else had. I purchased a pear shaped diamond with a diamond halo and band. The night of the proposal I took her to one of our favorite restaurants, Barton G in Miami Beach. Its a very outlandish and over the top kind of place. I thought a ring at the end of the night would have been the icing on the cake for the proposal, but the mood wasn’t quite right yet. It was close to closing time and waiters were starting to clean up. I decided that this wasn’t the place I wanted to propose anymore. With the ring box in my socks, we headed to downtown Miami. As we walked along Biscayne Bay, MacArthur Causeway was lit up in purple lights. We watched the car lights going over the bridge and that’s when I got down on one knee and popped the question. “Sabrina…will you marry me?”
How did you know they were “the one”? I think after a couple of months, I knew Sabrina was the one. We’re so different in so many ways that it was kind of the best of both worlds and it drew us closer together.
Describe your wedding attire. We both kept our style very simple and clean. We both wore ivory.
Did you incorporate any culture into your wedding? We’re both of Haitian descent and wanted to incorporate our culture of being from the Caribbean. It wasn’t possible with our caterer since our venue had a preferred caterer list. It was difficult to try to attain the same Caribbean flavor in food with a vendor that wasn’t so well versed in the tastes. Instead, we decided to incorporate our culture through our entertainment. We booked a full Junkanoo Band with stilt dancers. This was an epic surprise for our guests, accompanied with drums, bells and whistles. It was very interactive and had our guests on their feet throughout the entire performance. Their costumes were very colorful and decorative.
Wedding Party gifts: The bridesmaids were gifted with personalized stemless flutes & silk robes. The groomsmen had custom shirts.
Favorite item on the menu: Deep Fried Oreos!
First dance song: “You & I” (Nobody in the World) by John Legend. “Se Pa Pou Dat” by Alan Cave.
What is your best memory from your wedding? Our best memory from the wedding is leaving the church as husband and wife, with everyone cheering and congratulating us.
What is the best wedding advice you can give to engaged couples? Take your time and stay within your budget!
