After an evening out with friends at a popular local nightclub, Sequitha was heading home for the night when she was approached by Taurus. After a “corny” but memorable pickup line, Taurus offered his phone number. Though it would be a few months before Sequitha made that first call they spoke for hours as if they had always known each other – the connection was natural and immediate. In Sequitha’s words, “we were captivated by each other. No matter what was going on around us, it just felt right!”

Tell us how you met and all about the proposal. We met one night after hanging out with friends at Silver Spoon, a once popular nightclub in Memphis. We were both headed in for the night, but he noticed me walking alone and appearing frustrated. After a corny line to capture my attention, he offered me his number. It was three months later before I actually called him, but it was well worth the wait. Even in our very first conversation, we talked like we’d known each other forever. We could talk on the phone for hours (still do from time to time). Sometimes fighting sleep to carry on conversation, we were captivated by each other. No matter what was going on around us, it just felt right!
Taurus proposed on the eve of my 29th birthday at Ruth Chris with a restaurant full of spectators (As I’d always hoped for!). Dinner was followed by a surprise birthday/engagement party with my closest friends. Yes, he pulled out all the stops! I was in total disbelief that he’d “finally” popped the question and managed to pull it off without my knowing!
Describe your engagement session. We didn’t have a theme…the actual day of our engagement session was a frenzy, but by the looks of our photos you can’t tell, thanks to our amazing photographer! We started the shoot off both very nervous. Taurus is not a picture person and I am the complete opposite. As we started to engage more with each other and received tons of compliments by spectators, our nerves were quickly put to ease. The rest of the shoot was a breeze. It just felt natural.
What did you do on your first date? For our first date, we met at Rafferty’s. We had a light meal and drinks at the bar. We sat and talked for hours.
What’s your favorite thing to do as a couple? We love being together. It doesn’t actually matter whether we’re at home with snacks and a movie or out for a night on the town.
How has wedding planning been so far? On track! I’m a stickler for planning ahead and it’s paying off. The most stressful part so far was narrowing down our venue options. We knew we wanted a space that felt naturally elegant and classic. Our wedding party has also been very receptive of planning so far.
Tell us what you’re looking forward to most on the wedding day. On our wedding day, we’re looking forward to reciting our heartfelt vows to one another and celebrating with our family and friends. We love creating new memories and fun times with our loved ones. Our families and close friends are looking forward to our big day!
