It was during a girls’ trip to Portugal that Sheila and Myles first crossed paths. Immediately struck by her beauty, Myles arranged for a friend to make their introduction. Unfortunately for Myles, he didn’t at the time fit Sheila’s normal dating type. Exchanging numbers just the same, Myles continued his pursuit, following his heart, until Sheila began to see him in a different light. Myles invited her back to Portugal and they’ve remained inseparable ever since.

Bride & Groom: Sheila & Myles
Occupations: Nurse & Gym Owner
Wedding date: 5th Oct 2018
Wedding location: Portugal
How did you meet? Sheila was on a girls’ holiday in Portugal after completing Uni, and Myles was working in a popular bar for the summer. As soon as he saw her he got one of his friends to approach her and tell her that he was interested. Unfortunately she wasn’t! Especially as he wasn’t her ‘usual’ type. She took his number anyway out of politeness. After a few weeks and months of chasing he managed to convince her to come back to Portugal for a weekend and the rest is history!
Tell us about the proposal. We went for a quiet weekend in the south coast of England (Woolacombe) and after a sunset stroll on the beach he popped the question!
What was the wedding shopping experience like for you? Dresses were made for the bridesmaids which was quite simple and enjoying to design. Men’s suits were pretty easy too as they fitted the colour scheme perfectly. Bought the wedding dress after visiting two shops. Overall pretty good!
Did you incorporate any culture into your wedding? I am from Uganda and it is tradition to have a Ugandan ceremony before the white wedding. The grooms side of the family must attend and boy they did! They got dressed up in our traditional attire (Gomesi for women and Kansu for men) they danced, ate food and were so amazing. They embraced the culture so well there were videos of them circulating Uganda!
Wedding party gifts: Bridesmaids, Tiffany bracelets and rose gold earrings. Groomsmen, small bottles of rum shots and hip flasks.
Gifts for each other: No gifts, just each other!
Ceremony entrance song: “When I First Saw You” by Jamie Foxx
First dance song: “Lost Without You” (unplugged live version) by Robin Thicke
What is your best memory from your wedding? Just having everyone together and happy – no better feeling!
What is the best wedding advice you can give to engaged couples? Take 5 minutes during the day to walk away just you and your new husband and take it all in. Take in all the people who have come to celebrate you and the union God has blessed and take a moment to appreciate each other and the hard work it took to get to that point.
