How did you meet? We met eight years ago at LA Fitness in Atlanta, GA. Thomas took his shot “three” times before I said yes. I was just getting out of a relationship so wasn’t in the mood to date anyone new. The first time Thomas approached me at the gym, asking to get to know me, I told him flat-out no! The second time he approached me, he was waiting for me outside of the gym locker room. I saw him out of the corner of my eye and tried to hurry past him and he caught up to me. Again, he asked me out. This time he asked if he could take me out for a cocktail and I told him no as I didn’t drink. I was clearly lying as I love a good glass of Riesling! His witty reply is what started to peak my interest. After I’d told him that I didn’t drink, he said, “well what about a glass of water, everybody drinks water.” Super cute and clever, but I still refused. Then, one day I was leaving the gym and I knew he was in there so, I quickly shuffled out of my workout session and jetted for the front door. Low and behold, he was standing in the exit area and this time he had a child with him. A cute little boy that was so adorable. I couldn’t resist him. I engaged in conversation with the both of them and I finally agreed to go out with him.
Tell us your proposal story. I was headed out to take our two boys to a movie. Just before we left, Thomas entered the house and yelled up to me, “There’s cupcakes down here for you.” I love a good cupcake so I ran down the steps in search. As I opened the cupcake box, there was my ring, sitting on top of a cupcake, shining in its beauty and he was there on bended knee.
Describe your engagement session. Our first engagement session was a combination of our initial meeting in LA Fitness, first date location at the Piano Bar and our morning coffee meet ups at Quick Trip (Thomas used to meet me every morning for coffee before I went to work). So, the theme was to recreate how we met, our first date and what we enjoyed the first months of dating.
The second session was a mini session to meet our photographers in Pittsburgh and we didn’t have a theme. Although it appears we did as the flowers and garden match the attire perfectly.
What did you do on your first date? We went to this run down place called the Piano Bar in College Park, GA. I arrived to meet him and he drove his work truck to the date. As he flips houses, the truck was completely filthy with loads of debris in the back. I honestly could not believe he took me there and he drove that kind of car. I thought to myself, am I being punk’d? Ashton Kusher is surely going to jump out at any moment. He said he had to do a temperature check to make sure I was a “down chick” and didn’t just want him for his money. Ha! I’m glad for that date, as it took me out of my comfort zone of 5 star dining. And honestly, it was of my most memorable dates in life. The food was great, the drinks were good and we had an amazing conversation. I found out that he studied me for some time. He would ask different people who I was, if they knew anything about me, etc. He studied me so much that he knew my gym days and workout routines. He even pointed me out in the gym and told his friends that I would be his wife one day.
What’s your favorite thing to do as a couple? Besides working out together, siting on outdoor patios, eating delicious food and sipping wine.
