Shirlett and Garrick’s love story began as co-workers. Being in her presence everyday, Garrick soon developed feelings for Shirlett – building up the courage to one day ask her on a date. The holiday work party would provide just such an opportunity, and much to his satisfaction she agreed to attend with him. Tell us how you met and all about the proposal. We met at work. I finally got the courage to ask Shirlett to the work holiday party and we have been dancing together ever since. For the proposal, though it took me a while to ask Shirlett to marry me, the timing couldn’t have been more perfect. We purchased a home together in February of 2016 and during our house warming in June I figured in front of all our family and friends this would be the perfect time to ask her to be my wife.
How did you know they were “the one”? Garrick: “I knew Shirlett was the one when she went on a trip to Jamaica and I’m home alone unable to sleep in our bed without her presence there, that’s when I realized I couldn’t be without her.”
Shirlett: “I realized he was the one when we would drive and he would help me take my coat off in the car. It seems so simple but I realized that i’ve never met anyone that did the little things to make my heart melt.”
What was wedding shopping like for you? Shirlett: “Shopping for me was overwhelming. I wasn’t the type of girl that fantasized about her wedding day, I had no idea of what I wanted. I just wanted to look amazing for my husband-to-be, while at the same time secretly wanting my mothers approval. After several rounds of shopping with my mom, mother in law, sister in law and bridesmaids I fell in love with this beautiful Martina Liana dress from RK bridal. My mother was in love with the dress also and that sealed the deal.”
Garrick: “I was looking for a not so average suit and I felt like going tailored was the perfect route. I went with mens attire specialist Eaden Myles. His professionalism and his input was top notch and greatly appreciated. He guided me through the entire process and everything was tailored to perfection.”
Did you incorporate any culture into your wedding? Yes, during the ceremony we incorporated the song “Jump” by Rupee. We handed out custom made handkerchiefs and everyone got on their feet and started to dance and wave. This moment allowed the blending of both the Caribbean and American culture of our families.

Favorite item on the menu: We barely ate!
First dance song: “Why I Love You” by Major.
What is your best memory from your wedding? Garrick: “My best memory was seeing my Beautiful wife walk down the aisle with smiling from ear to ear.”
Shirlett: “My best memory of the wedding was getting into my carriage after the downpour of showers and smiling looking up to God thanking him for clearing up the rain and making the day just how I wanted it. not too hot and beautiful breeze.”
What is the best wedding advice you can give to engaged couples? Enjoy the moment, you don’t have to rush to set a date right away and will NEVER please everyone.
