Tiffany and Andrew’s beach wedding in Jamaica featured a gorgeous gazebo ceremony and a romantic outdoor candlelit reception.
After meeting in college and assuming that they would be ” just friends” a huge surprise was around the corner for both of them as love blossomed and eventually led to a stroll in the park and a surprise proposal in The Big Apple.
He truly got me good! And now he’s got me for life!

The pair who said their vows in front of a host of family and friends in Ocho Rios wanted to share their desire to honor their family heritage and to acknowledge those who have come before them. Working with luxury event planner Chic Events Jamaica the couple wanted their spring vows to have a clean modern look with delicate, dusty rose-colored floral accents, soft ivory linens, and touches of gold woven throughout the evening reception.
For the ceremony, Tiffany chose designer Martina Liana because she wanted a once-in-a-lifetime look that spoke to her own personal style. “I wanted something that showed my personality, something that was unique without being a typical wedding dress style,” Tiffany shares. “I wanted a dress that would be modern, unique, but classic.”
Andrew also decided to choose a designer that he knew would give him a luxurious vibe for their destination wedding. “Since we were having a wedding in Jamaica,” he explains, “we wanted to reduce the dark colors and also continue the theme of an elegant look. I felt like a star and was ready to meet my wife in style on the day of our wedding.”

How we met…
We met for the first time in June of 2011. Tiffany was a second-year undergraduate student at Cornell University in upstate New York and Andrew was an incoming freshman and they met during the pre-freshman summer program.
What we thought would just be a strong friendship ended up turning into destiny as we found our soulmates and found a home in each other for the better part of more than 10 years!

Tell us about the proposal…
Andrew: I had been thinking for months about how I wanted to propose to Tiffany. Given her rigorous schedule, I struggled to find a way to “surprise” her without her being clued in. But, after a lot of thought and preparation, I decided to take a risk! Anyone who knows Dr. Rose knows that the mornings after a 24-hour shift are sacred and reserved for sleep.
So, when I told her that I wanted her to accompany me to a teamwork event after she just got off work, excitement was likely the last thing she was feeling. In true Tiffany fashion, she rallied knowing it was important to me that she be there. What she didn’t know was that there was never a work event, and she was walking right into a surprise that would change her life forever!
Tiffany: A few weeks before he proposed, Andrew wrote in an event on our kitchen calendar that said, “Team Event,” on Saturday, September 4th. I didn’t think much about it, because I had a straight 24-hour call shift the night before which meant I would be working from 7 am Friday to 7 am that Saturday.
Naturally, I thought this event would be for him and him alone. When he later told me that it was an important work dinner and he really wanted me to accompany him, I was not the happiest person. Nonetheless, when I came home from work that day, I took a nap, drank a Red Bull, put on a dress and a smile, and got ready to go support my man!
When our Uber arrived at the supposed event location, he suggested we go for a walk at Brooklyn Bridge Park to kill some time.
At that point, I started to become suspicious. We kept walking and taking in the beautiful Manhattan skyline until he stopped me and grabbed both of my hands. Anyone who knows Andrew knows he’s a sappy romantic at heart every day of the week, so with all of his beautifully prepared words, I didn’t fully realize he was actually proposing until he was already down on one knee! I was so pleasantly surprised. And also honored and humbled that he wanted to continue our journey together. He truly got me good! And now he’s got me for life!!
Wedding Style…
In general, we wanted our wedding to give the vibe of “Simple Elegance”! In plain terms, we wanted to go for a clean, elegant look while keeping it simple with a multifaceted color scheme with metallic accent colors. We chose the wedding colors of a dusty rose, ivory, and gold emphasizing the space with clean lines, glass, and just the right number of flowers without being too stuffy!
Describe your wedding attire …
Andrew: For me, I knew I wanted to wear white or ivory. Since we were having a wedding in Jamaica, we wanted to reduce the dark colors and also continue the theme of an elegant look. Without hesitation, I reached out to my Custom Suit provider Bespok NY who I have used for my custom suits over the last five years and after talking over my vision with my guy I found the perfect fabric! Ivory fabric with a very unique raised pattern that was beautifully constructed into a double-breasted six-button jacket with black satin lapels.
From there, I paired it with a pair of tuxedo pants and a pair of patent leather slip-on loafers from Calvin Klein. To accessorize the fit, in true Andrew fashion, I elevated my outfit with a set of custom sterling silver cufflinks, a silver Bulova watch, and a pair of Gucci shades. I felt like a star and was ready to meet my wife in style on the day of our wedding.
Tiffany: Shopping for wedding dresses was surprising for me. I went to the larger name, more popular shops, where I tried on beautiful dresses, but none of the styles I thought I wanted stood out to me. I wanted something that showed my personality, something that was unique without being a typical wedding dress style. A dress that would be modern, unique, but classic.
Ultimately, I ended up at Lotus Bridal in Brooklyn, NY, which was actually located about 10 minutes from my house. I chose a Martina Liana textured mermaid wedding dress with a deep-V neckline. It has lace and tulle on silk zibeline and features a low, plunging neckline with a scalloped lace edge. Elongated cutouts around the waist are covered in textured beading that is unexpected and flattering. The dropped waistline and long flowing train are adorned with lace cutouts and a lace hemline.
The first touch…
Celebrating culture…
It was important to bring some cultural elements to our wedding that we felt has and will continue to transcend generations.
Getting married in Jamaica was a very intentional decision.
Jamaica with its rich history was meaningful to us with Tiffany’s family being born and raised there before emigrating to the US where she was born.
With this in mind, it was important to us to bring some cultural elements to our wedding that we felt has and will continue to transcend generations. One of those things was incorporating the jumping of the broom into our ceremony to solidify the commitment and union made to each other.
Traditionally, when enslaved people were not given traditional marital rights, for many, jumping the broom was the next best way of blessing their marriages and declaring their union. The handle of the broom represents God, the straw bristles signify the couple’s families, and the lace around the broom, placed there by the bride, symbolizes the ties that bind this couple. The act represents a new beginning and a sweeping away of the past.
It was important to us to recognize the privilege we had of being able to have a formal wedding that was recognized while also paying our respects to our ancestors who came before us.
The ceremony…
Memories…
My best memory from the wedding was taking a step away during the reception to just sit still. We stood and watched as our crowd interacted, as the lights glimmered off the clear-top tent, and we saw smiles and joy on everyone’s faces. It was at that moment that we realized the moment was much bigger than just us. It was a moment to bring families together, to bridge gaps between friend groups, and most importantly a chance to celebrate love in all of its forms.

Wedding planning 101…
Our biggest piece of advice is to go in open-minded but also know exactly what are the things that are important to YOU. Social media and many other platforms have told us what your wedding should look and feel like, but to be honest, your wedding should be what YOU want it to be. Especially since it is a day you will remember for the rest of your life.
Figure out what elements matter most to you: do you care about flowers or not? Indoor or outdoor, destination or not? All of these details will help you define the perfect day for yourself. But also remember the day is never going to go as planned even if you plan everything to a tee so just take a breath, enjoy the moment, and remember you are getting the chance to marry your person, and nothing can take the joy of that away from you!
