As a middle infielder for the San Diego Padres, Christopher Nelson is known for his competitive nature. So when he met Brittany, he immediately knew he had to win her heart. It all started with a game of spades. While attending a mutual friend’s birthday gathering in 2008, Chris challenged Brittany to a card game. Brittany was warned about Chris’ competitiveness, and he lived up to his reputation, as he obnoxiously ranted and raved after he beat Brittany and her partner. However, the bravado was all in good fun. Afterward, Chris politely came over and formally introduced himself to Brittany. Even though Brittany’s friend had warned her about Chris’ competitiveness, she also vowed that he was sincerely a good guy, so Brittany gave Chris her number. Brittany reminisces, “After going on a few dates, I immediately noticed chivalry was not dead with Christopher. He treated me in a way that made me realize true love does exist.”
Chris kept the romance going through their four year courtship, and pulled off a romantic proposal in the Bahamas. Brittany excitedly recalls, “Chris and I took our off-season vacation on October 12, 2012, to Nassau, Bahamas. We stayed at the exquisite Cove Tower of the Atlantis Resort. As soon as we checked in we rushed to our room in hopes of catching the sunset. As we stood on the balcony hand in hand, Chris asked if I could go to the bathroom to retrieve his phone so he could capture the moment. On my way back to the balcony, I was stopped in my tracks as I witnessed Christopher down on one knee with a ring box in his hand. I immediately burst into tears as Chris asked me the four words every girl wants to hear in her life!”
A year later, they had a luxurious wedding at the Four Seasons hotel in Atlanta. Their wedding was full of sophistication and glam. Hues of pink were infused with stunning black décor elements- pink flowers were placed upon towering black vases, while pink chargers and black sequined table linens brought an element of sparkle to the decor. Brittany loves lace, so her wedding planner, Eliana Baucicault of ellyB Events, made sure to incorporate it into the wedding design. Eliana shares, “we thought of innovative ways to incorporate it without it feeling like too old school over overly done. We had elements on the invitation and black lace tops on the tables. There was also a hint of the lace on the dance floor decals.”
While the décor was simply breathtaking, the most memorable moment for the couple was reciting their vows during the ceremony. Brittany shares, “We really enjoyed confessing our love for one another in front of 150 of our closest family members and friends.”
With friends and family to support them along the way, the Nelson’s are definitely winning in life and love. Make sure to check out the gallery to see all of the amazing photos Milanes Photography captured of this gorgeous wedding. You’re going to swoon over the details.

How They Met
Chris and I met a little after Thanksgiving in 2008. We were at a mutual friend’s birthday gathering when someone suggested playing a game of spades. Ironically, my partner, which happens to be one of my close friends from college, also went to high school with Christopher. She warned me about his level of competitiveness, but it did not discourage me. He obnoxiously ranted and raved after he and his partner collected nearly all the books, that resulted in my partner and I losing the game. After losing embarrassingly, Chris came over and introduced himself to me. Our mutual friend had nothing, but good things to say about him throughout the night, which is why I was not hesitant to exchange numbers with him. After going on a few dates, I immediately noticed chivalry was not dead with Christopher. He treated me a way that made me realize true love does exist.
One thing the groom loves most about the bride…
The one thing he loves most about me is me being very supportive of him. There are so many obstacles and challenges Chris has to face being a professional athlete. I trust and support his ability to do make the best decision for our family, even if it’s opting out a deal and moving us across the country midway through the season overnight. I will support his decision one hundred and ten percent and pull an all nighter packing, booking flights and making living arrangements for our next destination with no complaints for him.
One thing the bride loves most about the groom…
The one thing I love most about him is his kind heart! I always tell Chris he has a heart of gold. He sees the best in everyone he comes in contact with and if there is anything he can do to help anyone he will go above and beyond the call of duty to do it. He has truly made me a better person and helped me see the best in everyone and everything.
