Keneshia and Ricky celebrated their engagement with a sophisticated outdoor e-session at the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art!
Keneshia and Ricky first met in middle school at a basketball game and exchanged social media contacts, but weren’t able to keep in touch. As fate would have it, they both attended the same high school and became the best of friends. After senior year, Keneshia and Ricky attended different universities and lost touch until Keneshia moved back to Tennessee. Once Ricky found out Keneshia was back, he immediately reached out and before they knew it, they were making plans and having weekly dates.
Ricky planned a beautiful lakeside proposal at one of their favorite restaurants, surrounded by close family and friends.
Keneshia was completely shocked once she saw me get on one knee…The reaction and look of pure happiness on her face when I asked her to be my wife made every moment of planning this day worthwhile!

How did you meet?
Ricky and I met at a middle school basketball game in 2008 of rivalry schools. Ricky was a basketball player for the opposing team; while I was a cheerleader for the home team. We exchanged social media information but never connected due to distance. In 2009, we reconnected when we attended the same high school. At that time we were both busy with cheer and basketball and decided it was best to be friends. Our parents took turns taking us to practices and games and we became best friends. Our friendship faded when we traveled to different colleges and lost touch. I moved back to Memphis my junior year of college and Ricky got wind that I was back in town, LOL. He invited me to his housewarming party and lunch the next day. At that moment we started making lunch and movie dates a weekly outing until June 15, 2016, when Ricky asked me to be his girlfriend.
Tell us your proposal story
Keneshia always told me she wanted her family and friends to be present whenever I decided to propose to her. She also made it clear that she did not want me to pop the big question on a holiday, as she wanted her own special day! So this made it quite challenging for me to create a moment where her friends and family were present! I planned a dinner date for April 11, 2021, at one of our favorite restaurants, Coastal Fish Company. I informed our family and friends, got customized “Will You Marry Me” balloons and a photographer. By sunset, I informed everyone to be outside by the restaurant’s lake to capture our special moment. Keneshia was completely shocked once she saw me get on one knee and all of her loved ones came out with custom signs and balloons. The reaction and look of pure happiness on her face when I asked her to be my wife made every moment of planning this day worthwhile!
How did you know they were “the one”?
Keneshia: I knew Ricky was the one when he showed me unconditional love and loyalty when I couldn’t give him my undivided attention. Ricky was with me through four tough years of nursing school that consisted of him staying up all night helping me study, listening to me cry and complain, and having little to no energy left when I made it home to have dinner with him. You are the real MVP baby.
Ricky: I knew Keneshia was the woman for me when after months of dating, she always wanted to see me do better and succeed in life no matter what it was. She helped me get back into college, helped me progress in my work career, and helped me become a better man overall. She’s my reason why!

What are you looking forward to most on your wedding day?
